Love historic golf images!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland (RCAHMS) has issued an online archive of golf courses charting the history of lost courses and taking new aerial images of current courses<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">RCAHMS writes<\/span>:<br \/>\nHundreds of Scotland\u2019s golf courses have been lost over the last century either because they\u2019ve relocated, been forced to close or have been completely redesigned.<\/p>\n<p>Now some of these 250 former courses have been formally recorded as part of a project by RCAHMS to establish a comprehensive database on Scotland\u2019s landscapes.<\/p>\n<p>RCAHMS also holds aerial photography of each of Scotland\u2019s golf courses, and we\u2019ve recently been taking high quality digital photography of more than 500 current playing courses on the mainland of Scotland from the air, including Gleneagles, host to the 2014 Ryder Cup.<\/p>\n<p>The records have also drawn on listings information held by Historic Scotland: five clubhouses in Scotland carry a Category A listing including Pitfirrane Castle, Dunfermline Golf Club and Ratho Park Golf Club, with a number of other clubhouses being B or C listed.<\/p>\n<p>Many of Scotland\u2019s golf course sites \u2013 both those that remain playable and the lost courses recorded by RCAHMS Historic Land-use Assessment &#8211; reflect the social and economic history of 20th century Scotland.
