{"id":8544,"date":"2014-09-20T15:46:22","date_gmt":"2014-09-20T14:46:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=8544"},"modified":"2014-09-20T15:46:22","modified_gmt":"2014-09-20T14:46:22","slug":"vaizey-on-londons-art-deco-victoria-coach-station-listed-gii","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=8544","title":{"rendered":"Vaizey on London\u2019s Art Deco Victoria Coach Station, listed GII"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Ed Vaizey, England\u2019s Culture minister, spoke to the <em>London Evening Standard<\/em> on the recent news that Victoria Coach Station has been granted Grade II listed status<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Ed Vaizey commented in The London Evening Standard: \u2018Victoria Coach Station, with its soaring Art Deco frontage, harks back to another \u2014 more stylish, perhaps \u2014 era in public transport,\u2019 he said\u2026\u00a0 \u2018It certainly merits listed building status, and I hope it continues serving Londoners and visitors to the capital for many years to come.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>English Heritage\u2019s list description says that the work is: \u2018A bold and striking composition, remarkable among contemporary road-transport buildings, whose corner tower ranks among London\u2019s most distinctive Art Deco landmarks, and one of the most notable surviving works by Wallis, Gilbert &amp; Partners, pre-eminent specialists in inter-war industrial architecture; ??Historic interest: the inter-war growth of recreational coach travel was a significant chapter in British social and transport history.
