<\/a><\/p>\n\u2018Ee, by gum\u2019, Context <\/em>has gone to Yorkshire, as the new edition of Context, the journal of the Institute of Historic Building Conservation (IHBC), looks at this large county with much to offer.<\/span><\/p>\n Yorkshire folk can be rather shy when it comes to celebrating their cultural inheritance: the seven registered battlefields; the distinctive landscapes of Yorkshire\u2019s national parks; the county\u2019s rich industrial heritage; the two world heritage sites at Fountains Abbey and Saltaire; the urban parks, historic gardens and parkland; and much great architecture and urban development.<\/p>\n In this issue we present a snapshot of work that is making the most of a few of the riches Yorkshire has to offer: Baldersby Park\u2019s 18th century landscape monuments, recently repaired; the city of Hull, gearing up to be City of Culture in 2017; Howsham Mill, a former granary, mill and gothic folly that now makes electricity by water power and provides environmental education; Tower Works, whose three Italianate towers, distinctive landmarks on the Leeds skyline, have been incorporated into new development; and the people who come together in the York Consortium for Conservation and Craftsmanship.<\/p>\n As ever, themed issues of Context<\/em> also include more general conservation articles as well as news, book reviews and reports from IHBC\u2019s officers.<\/p>\n The next edition of Context<\/em> will look back at the 2014 Annual School in Edinburgh and in November Context will be commemorating the centenary of the outbreak of the Great War. \u00a0Forthcoming Context themes include a look at the retail environment, the material and technology of metal and Northern Ireland.<\/p>\n If you have any suggestions for articles or other material contact Fiona Newton at: editorial@ihbc.org.uk<\/a><\/p>\n For information on Context<\/em>\u2019s future issues, guidance for authors, and links to the journal\u2019s archives, see IHBC Publications<\/a><\/p>\n To find out more about the IHBC, take advantage of our mobile friendly introduction to the institute\u2019s 25000+ of web page resources\u00a0see IHBC Webstarter<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" \u2018Ee, by gum\u2019, Context has gone to Yorkshire, as the new edition of Context, the journal of the Institute of Historic Building Conservation (IHBC), looks at this large county with much to offer.
