{"id":8018,"date":"2014-07-11T18:12:15","date_gmt":"2014-07-11T17:12:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=8018"},"modified":"2014-07-13T17:54:32","modified_gmt":"2014-07-13T16:54:32","slug":"student-competition-urban-sos-towards-a-new-industry","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=8018","title":{"rendered":"Student Competition &#8211; &#8216;Urban SOS: Towards a New Industry&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">A new student competition has been launched, entitled \u2018Urban SOS: Towards a New Industry\u2019, which encourages exploration of the development economics and socio-political issues of developing a derelict site when faced by \u2018real world\u2019 challenges, with the closing date for registration is August 1 2014<\/span>.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">AECOM, which launched the competition, writes<\/span>:<br \/>\nProjects should take the form of a creative urban design, landscape, architectural or engineering solution that re-imagines the challenges related to an abandoned factory or place of production. Proposals should identify a city with a derelict piece of infrastructure and develop an inspiring economically viable concept that reanimates part of the entire site. Students are encouraged to consider the potential for making and production to be a driving force for urban growth. Each proposal must address a plan for sustainable growth, asset improvement, revitalization, collaboration, technology and overall community benefit. Responses can range from a strategic framework to a surgical micro-response; from a whole landscape system to a single piece of architecture.<\/p>\n<p>Entrants will be judged on their ability to demonstrate a holistic approach and embrace interdisciplinary thinking.
