{"id":7879,"date":"2014-06-20T16:45:41","date_gmt":"2014-06-20T15:45:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=7879"},"modified":"2014-06-20T16:45:41","modified_gmt":"2014-06-20T15:45:41","slug":"councils-do-not-understand-or-value-role-of-culture-theatres-trust","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=7879","title":{"rendered":"Councils &#8216;do not understand or value&#8217; role of culture: Theatres Trust"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Policies to support and retain existing community facilities are \u2018unclear in most local plans\u2019, the Theatres Trust has claimed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The trust said it was \u2018unfortunate\u2019 that policies to protect and provide community and cultural infrastructure did not affect the soundness of local plans.<\/p>\n<p>In evidence submitted to a communities and local government inquiry, the trust said: \u2018While some local planning authorities understand and are sensitive to the inclusion of social and cultural wellbeing in their local plans and relate this aspiration to their cultural infrastructure, many are not.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Theatres are a vital part of our communities and provide important stimulus for the evening economies of town centres.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Authorities at both a national and local level generally do not understand or value the role of culture and cultural wellbeing in supporting growth and the development of vibrant communities, especially in town centres.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018We have found that many town centre policies include the word cultural without any explanatory criteria.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.localgov.co.uk\/Councils-do-not-understand-or-value-role-of-culture-says-Trust\/36466\" target=\"_blank\">Local Gov article<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Policies to support and retain existing community facilities are \u2018unclear in most local plans\u2019, the Theatres Trust has claimed.
