{"id":786,"date":"2009-11-06T18:46:17","date_gmt":"2009-11-06T18:46:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=786"},"modified":"2010-03-23T18:46:50","modified_gmt":"2010-03-23T18:46:50","slug":"new-study-of-england%e2%80%99s-conservation-plans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=786","title":{"rendered":"New study of England\u2019s conservation plans"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Ian Dungavell has begun a new study on  conservation plans, trying to capture the perspectives of those people  who have commissioned them, those who write them, and those who use them  either as property managers and curators or as regulators and grant  givers.\u00a0He says: &#8220;It is now over ten years since conservation plans have  been required by the Heritage Lottery Fund, and they are also used more  widely as a management tool. However, there has been no research to  establish if they are working as intended, even though millions of  pounds is spent on work they justify. Experience has also shown that\u00a0it  is not easy to commission or produce a good plan, it can be\u00a0difficult to  find the right people to do the work and,\u00a0in practice, some plans have  just gathered dust.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The project is limited to conservation plans  for the built heritage in England.<\/p>\n<p>Ian Dungavell is also  director of the Victorian Society, while the research is being conducted  independently, and the results will be published.
