The IHBC\u2019s 2014 School in Edinburgh has finally closed with the conclusion of the Orkney Opportunity on 11 June followed by a big \u2018thank you\u2019 from our Chair Mike Brown, while if you missed any of it you can review or catch up by following the twitter and facebook icons from our web site home page, and remember too that there\u2019s still lots to come with our School issue of \u2018Context\u2019 and developing Research Notes<\/span>.<\/p>\n

IHBC Chair Mike Brown said: \u2018I\u2019d like to thank all at the Edinburgh School who did so much to make the event such a resounding success.\u00a0 We always knew it was a challenging topic, but we\u2019ve been very gratified by the positive reception to the entire experience, from tours and talks to social networking and exhibitions.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018It\u2019s been a long and at times daunting task, but, as with every year to date, our Branch, officers and colleagues have drawn together a learning and networking forum that remains unmatched for its combination of individual conservation CPD, cutting-edge heritage advocacy, regulatory advice, and corporate profile-raising and private sector business development.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018On behalf of the entire IHBC I\u2019d like to express our thanks to all who\u2019ve made such huge personal efforts on our behalf, not least the members of the organising committee in our Scotland Branch, the speakers and guides, and to the businesses and heritage bodies that have done so much to invest in our work and to help raise our profile.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018I know that our 2015 School, in Norwich next year, will be able to build on this success just as much as Edinburgh built on our 2013 School in Carlisle and on previous Schools. \u00a0So I’d urge anyone who\u2019s got an interest in developing their conservation skills or heritage interests to look to joining the IHBC as one of the most cost-effective routes to securing their place as a true conservation professional, whatever their personal or specialist interests in the historic environment.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018And don\u2019t forget that we do already, and will continue to, offer substantial financial support to members in need, both in the form of bursaries for training at Schools and as fee support for IHBC membership.\u00a0 So if you do think you’d benefit from our support, please don\u2019t be afraid to make your case for fee support now, or for School bursaries as soon as they are announced next year\u2019.<\/p>\n
