Help us grow the IHBC\u2019s volunteering capacity &#038; standards"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The IHBC is investing in an entirely new level of support for our local education and events activities as we establish a full-time equivalent post of IHBC \u2018Learning, Education, Training &amp; Standards\u2019 (\u2018LETS\u2019) Liaison Officer &#8211; with job-share offers also welcome from candidates \u2013 responsible for helping IHBC volunteers deliver training events to members and colleagues across our networks<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>IHBC Chair Mike Brown said: \u2018I\u2019m delighted that we\u2019re now in a position to offer this dedicated support to our members and colleagues.\u00a0 This is a remarkable opportunity for a person \u2013 or perhaps persons \u2013 to help the IHBC move to the next level of support for our volunteers, members and diverse sector partners.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Clearly any successful candidate will have to know volunteering and voluntary needs and pressures when managing events.\u00a0 They\u2019ll also need to be able to work alongside our members, both as assistant and adviser \u2013 in effect as \u2018gopher\u2019 and guide.<\/p>\n<p>Our voluntary network is very local too, so our \u2018LETS\u2019 support will have to be prepared to travel extensively across our UK constituencies.\u00a0 That first hand experience is the only way to make sure that our \u2018LETS\u2019 support gets to know our members properly, their concerns and their work, and be able to offer the help they need.\u00a0 So anyone in this new role will need to enjoy working in conservation events, helping alongside real heritage enthusiasts, and being amongst people from all sorts of disciplines that want to know more about how conservation works.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>IHBC Education Secretary David McDonald said: \u2018 This new role sits beside both the IHBC\u2019s national educational work and our members\u2019 evolving practice and experience on the ground.\u00a0 While we are closely tied to day-to-day conservation practice through our volunteers, not least with our trustees and our Branch-led Schools, we lack capacity to manage the overlaps as effectively as we might.\u00a0 With this new role we can now have that much-needed support\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>We are also committed to train up any post-holder in this work.\u00a0 This new training is especially important to us as we\u2019ve done so much recently to develop new educational infrastructure in conservation, and no-one could be expected to be up-to-speed with the current situation.\u00a0 For example, we now have National Occupational Standards (NOS), a British Standard (7913) and an ever-widening training agenda linked to our support for Affiliates to progress to become Full Members.\u00a0 So while clearly there is no better time to institute this support, there\u2019s no-one who will know all about these new developments.<\/p>\n<p>Any \u2018LETS\u2019 Liaison Officer post-holder will have to enjoy learning themselves just as much as they value helping learning by others.\u00a0 Indeed we\u2019re looking forward to building their skills so that in coming years they will be able offer much more substantial leadership at all levels across our operations.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Charles Strang, IHBC\u2019s Communications Secretary said: \u2018We know that new social and digital media are central to winning the hearts of new volunteers as well as new members, so we\u2019d hope that online social networking and the use of digital media will be an important part of any IHBC LETS Liaison Officer\u2019s life and work.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019ve plans to use these new tools to communicate at all levels in the IHBC, from internal performance management to sector-wide promotion, so we\u2019d especially also welcome clear strengths in these areas.\u2019<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>DETAILS OF THE POST (Job share proposals welcome)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Title<br \/>\n<\/strong>IHBC \u2018Learning, Education, Training &amp; Standards\u2019 (\u2018LETS\u2019) Liaison Officer<\/p>\n<p><strong>Job description<br \/>\n<\/strong>Our \u2018LETS\u2019 Liaison officer(s) will be both assistant to and adviser on training events that are planned, organised and delivered with the help of IHBC volunteers, with a particular responsibility being to develop networks that will raise the profile of, and cross-sector interest in, the IHBC\u2019s educational activities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Role overview<br \/>\n<\/strong>The Institute of Historic Building Conservation (IHBC) is a limited company and a registered charity that serves as the UK\u2019s professional body for built and historic environment conservation specialists.\u00a0 Full details of our operations, services, benefits and structures are posted on our website at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ihbc.org.uk\" target=\"_blank\">www.ihbc.org.uk<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The new role of \u2018LETS\u2019 Liaison Officer has been established to support the IHBC\u2019s local voluntary networks that take responsibility for delivering our conservation-related training and events to members and colleagues.<\/p>\n<p>The post may be held as a job-share, depending on applicants\u2019 strengths, needs and circumstances.<\/p>\n<p>The role requires any post-holder to provide support across all our UK-based Branches, volunteers and, where appropriate, partner networks as they deliver educational and related events.<\/p>\n<p>You will need excellent communication skills and to be a confident speaker and \u2018networker\u2019, as on occasion you will also be required to promote the IHBC to a range of audiences, including members, non-specialist practitioners, public workshops and at stakeholder events.<\/p>\n<p>This role demands distance working and would suit a highly organised and motivated individual who can operate remotely whilst liaising closely with the wider IHBC team of staff, trustees and officers, themselves based across the UK.\u00a0 You will work most closely with the IHBC Director, Projects Officer, Chair, Vice-chair, and the Education and Membership Secretaries.<\/p>\n<p>Regular travel across the UK will be required.<\/p>\n<p>The post is funded wholly by the IHBC.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Some specific details about the post(s):<br \/>\n<\/strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Term<\/span>: 3-year appointment initially with a presumption to extend as agreed.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Probation<\/span>: 6 months from start.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Salary\/fee<\/span>: Starting from \u00a318,000 to \u00a322,000 per annum (or <em>pro rata<\/em>), though more may be available for a candidate with exceptionally relevant strengths.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Pension<\/span>: Arrangements, where applicable, will be confirmed following the probationary period.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Employment standards &amp;
