{"id":7663,"date":"2014-05-16T18:13:56","date_gmt":"2014-05-16T17:13:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=7663"},"modified":"2014-05-16T18:13:56","modified_gmt":"2014-05-16T17:13:56","slug":"nt-highlights-worsening-planning-department-capacity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=7663","title":{"rendered":"NT highlights &#8216;worsening&#8217; planning department capacity"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Council planning department capacity and access to expert advice is worsening, the National Trust conservation charity has warned<\/span>.<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The charity called on the Government to ensure local authorities have \u2018well-resourced planning departments, and access to training and specialist advice\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>It pointed to a survey that found on average the number of professional planners employed by councils fell by 13% between October 2010 and 2012.<\/p>\n<p>A charity spokesman said: \u2018Local planning authority access to specialist advice on nature and the historic environment is also on a downward trend.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Only one-third of planning authorities have access to an in-house ecologist and 90% of planners lack ecological qualifications.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Similarly, since 2006 there has been an 18% drop in archaeological advice and a 33% drop in conservation advice.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.localgov.co.uk\/Charity-warns-of-worsening-planning-department-capacity\/36315\" target=\"_blank\">UK Gov article<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Council planning department capacity and access to expert advice is worsening, the National Trust conservation charity has warned.\u00a0 The charity called on the Government to ensure local authorities have \u2018well-resourced planning departments, and access to training and specialist advice\u2019.
