{"id":7647,"date":"2014-05-16T17:54:38","date_gmt":"2014-05-16T16:54:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=7647"},"modified":"2014-05-16T17:54:38","modified_gmt":"2014-05-16T16:54:38","slug":"repair-and-re-use-of-historic-buildings-benefit-anglesey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=7647","title":{"rendered":"Repair and re-use of historic buildings benefit Anglesey"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Welsh Government M\u00f4n a Menai funding has supported two projects in Anglesey island, helping bring historic buildings back into use and create new spaces to benefit the local economy<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The Welsh Government writes<\/span>:<br \/>\nTwo projects which take advantage of Anglesey\u2019s rich heritage will be a boost for the island\u2019s tourism industry, Housing and Regeneration Minister Carl Sargeant said today.<\/p>\n<p>The Minister was visiting the Sail Loft at Amlwch Port and Prince\u2019s Pier at Menai Bridge, both of which are managed by Menter M\u00f4n and have received funding from the Welsh Government\u2019s M\u00f4n a Menai programme.<\/p>\n<p>The Sail Loft will be totally refurbished into a caf\u00e9 and restaurant including a small exhibition area. \u00a0Menter M\u00f4n is working closely with the Amlwch Industrial Heritage Trust to ensure that these developments at Amlwch Port including the new Copper Kingdom Centre will attract locals and visitors alike to learn about the history of the area. \u00a0During the late 18th Century Amlwch employed 1500 and was a major town in Wales. The Welsh Government has contributed \u00a3160,000 to the project.<\/p>\n<p>The refurbishment of the Prince\u2019s Pier building at Menai Bridge is nearing completion and will include business units for let and a space for a presentation on Anglesey\u2019s two iconic bridges. \u00a0The building, which is a former warehouse and pilot\u2019s cottage, had been derelict for 30 years and is an excellent location on the banks of the Menai Strait. \u00a0 It is being developed in partnership with the Menter Mon and Menai Bridge Heritage Trust. \u00a0The Welsh Government has contributed \u00a3195,000 towards the project<\/p>\n<p>The Minister said: \u2018Both these projects involve the restoration of historic buildings on the island which are part of the area\u2019s rich heritage. \u00a0Both are in locations which benefit from visitors and will make a valuable contribution to the tourism industry of the area.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I\u2019d like to congratulate the teams working on these projects which help raise awareness of the rich history and culture of the area.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/wales.gov.uk\/newsroom\/housing-and-regeneration\/2014\/8703269\/?lang=en\" target=\"_blank\">Welsh Government Article<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.angleseyheritage.com\" target=\"_blank\">Anglesey Heritage<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Welsh Government M\u00f4n a Menai funding has supported two projects in Anglesey island, helping bring historic buildings back into use and create new spaces to benefit the local economy.
