{"id":7125,"date":"2014-02-01T16:56:57","date_gmt":"2014-02-01T16:56:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=7125"},"modified":"2014-02-01T17:21:05","modified_gmt":"2014-02-01T17:21:05","slug":"ihbc-welcomes-new-msc-in-architectural-history-theory","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=7125","title":{"rendered":"IHBC welcomes new MSc in Architectural History &#038; Theory"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">A new advanced masters degree in MSc Architectural History &amp; Theory course has been launched by Edinburgh College of Art to commence in September 2014<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p>Edinburgh College of Art (ECA) is offering a new course for the 2014 academic year, with advanced training in the methodological and theoretical paradigms of architectural history.\u00a0 Through coursework, supervised dissertation research, and optional internships, students will acquire both breadth of historical understanding and rigorous research practices.<\/p>\n<p>IHBC Director Se\u00e1n O\u2019Reilly said: \u2018The introduction of the new course is to be welcomed as it offers a diverse curriculum covering theoretical underpinnings of architectural history and options covering architectural conservation, construction history and urban and cultural theory, all of which relate directly to the IHBC professional and practical competencies.\u00a0 The opportunity for internships in partnership with organisations that specialise in the documentation and interpretation of the historic built environment is an additional benefit of the course as this will offer students good experience in their early conservation career.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">ECA writes<\/span>:<br \/>\n\u2018The range of taught courses reflects staff\u2019s research interests: Britain (especially Scotland) and the British colonial world; Germany and Central Europe; Europe and Eurasia; the Americas; Medieval and Renaissance Italy; nineteenth-century, twentieth-century, and contemporary architecture; landscape history; construction history; urban and cultural theory.
