{"id":7068,"date":"2014-01-24T18:53:17","date_gmt":"2014-01-24T18:53:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=7068"},"modified":"2014-01-24T18:53:17","modified_gmt":"2014-01-24T18:53:17","slug":"parks-and-cemeteries-receive-lottery-funding","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=7068","title":{"rendered":"Parks and cemeteries receive lottery funding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Historic parks and cemeteries have received \u00a326.5m funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) and Big Lottery Fund\u2019s Parks for People programme.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The funding will help restore and open up 15 parks and cemeteries across the UK, including \u00a33.7m to refurbish the Grade I registered Brompton Cemetery in West London. The cemetery is the final resting place of suffragette Emmeline Pankhurst, John Keats\u2019 muse Fanny Brawne and inventor of the Christmas card, Henry Cole.<\/p>\n<p>Carole Souter, chief executive of HLF, said: \u2018Eighteen years of Lottery investment in our public parks has transformed tired and in some cases under used green spaces into thriving community hubs. Our historic cemeteries, with their wealth of heritage, also offer huge untapped potential and we\u2019re delighted now to include them specifically in this programme.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Bexley LBC also secured almost \u00a33.5m of lottery funding to improve local historic park Lesnes Abbey Woods (pictured above).
