{"id":7048,"date":"2014-01-17T19:03:01","date_gmt":"2014-01-17T19:03:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=7048"},"modified":"2014-01-17T19:03:01","modified_gmt":"2014-01-17T19:03:01","slug":"councils-deny-sitting-on-regeneration-cash","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=7048","title":{"rendered":"Councils deny &#8216;sitting on&#8217; regeneration cash"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Councils have denied \u2018sitting on\u2019 millions of pounds of Section 106 money intended for social and community projects, contrary to reports from the BBC.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Freedom of information requests to all 353 local authorities in England by the BBC found that \u00a3421m had not yet been allocated to future schemes and over the past five years \u00a39.8m had been returned to developers.<\/p>\n<p>But chairman of the Local Government Association\u2019s environment and housing board, Mike Jones, stressed that the process behind assigning Section 106 money was \u2018complex\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>Cllr Jones said: \u2018This is all about making the right long-term investment decisions to deliver the services that communities desperately need.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018It is utterly wrong to say councils are sitting on it.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The Home Builders Federation, which represents the industry, said the figures showed the \u2018huge contribution\u2019 development makes to local authority budgets.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">UK Local Government article<\/span>: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.localgov.co.uk\/Councils-deny-sitting-on-regeneration-cash\/35308\" target=\"_blank\">LINK<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Councils have denied \u2018sitting on\u2019 millions of pounds of Section 106 money intended for social and community projects, contrary to reports from the BBC.
