The IHBC has announced that the prize for its 2014 Annual Gus Astley Student Award will rise to \u00a3500, while this still includes a free place at the IHBC\u2019s 2014 Annual School for all commended entrants. <\/span><\/p>\n

IHBC Chair Mike Brown said: \u2018The award is one of the highlights of the IHBC\u2019s calendar, and we are always delighted to welcome the winner to our Annual School, as well as those commended runners up of course!\u00a0 Indeed the winners from the 2013 award will be especially fortunate as they\u2019ll have the chance to join us next June in Edinburgh where we\u2019ll be exploring the \u2018Art of conservation\u2019, and their contributions to this challenging topic will be especially welcome\u2019.<\/p>\n

IHBC Education Secretary David McDonald said: \u2018It\u2019s great that the IHBC can continue to development this award in a way that reflects the efforts of the applicants as well as their tutors and course leaders.\u00a0 It\u2019s a great honour for all involved, and a real privilege to see all that great work being properly celebrated.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018And remember too just how inclusive our Award is: you don\u2019t have to be a member of the IHBC to enter, and all you need do is submit, digitally, coursework that you think does credit to you and your course.\u00a0 It could not be easier to participate.\u2019<\/p>\n

IHBC Education Vice Chair and Gus Astley Fund trustee Bob Kindred MBE said: \u2018We\u2019ve been looking at this very closely and, with donations to the fund continuing from IHBC Branches, and the huge profile IHBC\u2019s Gus Astley Award has brought to the discipline of conservation since its inception, it\u2019s clear that we need to capture that high regard more substantially.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018With its in inter-disciplinary standing and international cachet, alongside the incredibly high standard of so much of the work by the students, it seems only fair to offer real incentives and awards to those hard-working students, learners and career-changers that will be at the heart of our discipline in the future.\u2019<\/p>\n
