The Department for Culture, Media & Sport (DCMS) and HM Treasury have announced ongoing help for listed places of worship with the cost of repairs and alterations.<\/span><\/p>\n

DCMS writes:<\/span><\/p>\n

Government has announced changes to the scope and operation of the Listed Places of Worship grant scheme, which will take effect from 1 October 2013. These changes will enable more listed places of worship to claim for grants through the scheme.<\/p>\n

From 1 October 2013, works to pipe organs, turret clocks, bells and bell ropes will be eligible for claims under the scheme. Professional services directly related to eligible building work such as architect fees will also become eligible. These changes apply to works supplied from 1 October 2013.<\/p>\n

From this date, applications to make use of the scheme will be accepted from religious and charitable groups whose main purpose is to conserve, repair and maintain redundant listed places of worship which are not in private ownership.<\/p>\n

These changes will be accompanied by administrative changes to simplify claiming through the scheme including:<\/p>\n

A new provision that in any 12 month period each place of worship may submit one claim using eligible invoices with a value between \u00a3500 and \u00a31,000 (excluding the VAT paid). This is in addition to an unlimited number of claims where the value of eligible work carried out (excluding VAT) is \u00a31,000 or greater.<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0 Scanned and photocopied invoices will now be accepted to support claims<\/p>\n

\u00b7\u00a0\u00a0 The scheme will process payment runs each week to deliver a smoother flow of payments to applicants helping applicants receive their grants more quickly.<\/p>\n

Full details of the changes and new application forms will be available on the Listed Places of Worship grant scheme website from 1 October 2013.<\/p>\n

The Listed Places of Worship Grant Scheme makes grants towards the VAT incurred in making repairs and carrying out alterations to listed buildings mainly used for public worship. The scheme has an annual budget of \u00a342m, and presently receives around 4000 claims each year.<\/p>\n

The expansion to include professional fees and works to pipe organs, turret clocks, bells and bell ropes applies to works supplied on or after 1 October 2013.<\/p>\n
