He will take up the appointment on 3 December 2013.<\/p>\n<p>Abraham joins the Soane from the Victoria and Albert Museum, where, as Curator of Designs, he was responsible for the much praised \u2018Heatherwick Studio: Designing the Extraordinary\u2019 exhibition. He replaces Tim Knox, now Director of the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge. The Deputy Director and Inspectress, Helen Dorey, will continue to serve as Acting Director, as she has done since 1 March, until Mr Thomas takes up his appointment.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on his appointment, Mr Thomas said \u2018I am delighted to be appointed the next Director of Sir John Soane\u2019s Museum. It\u2019s a great honour to be invited to lead this unique institution, and I look forward to building upon the fantastic work carried out by my predecessor, Tim Knox, and the staff, in order to create an exciting future for the Museum.
