{"id":6157,"date":"2013-07-19T16:50:46","date_gmt":"2013-07-19T15:50:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=6157"},"modified":"2013-07-19T16:50:46","modified_gmt":"2013-07-19T15:50:46","slug":"park-hill-medieval-shell-in-2013-riba-stirling-shortlist-for-best-new-building","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=6157","title":{"rendered":"Park Hill &#038; medieval shell in 2013 RIBA Stirling shortlist for best \u2018new\u2019 building"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The shortlist for the prestigious 2013 RIBA Stirling Prize for the best new building has been announced as six exciting and exceptional buildings will now go head to head for architecture\u2019s highest accolade from the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), among which is the vibrant reinvention of a 1960s Sheffield housing block Park Hill and a contemporary new holiday home within the burnt-out shell of the 12th century Astley Castle<\/span>.<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">RIBA writes<\/span>:<br \/>\nThe 2013 RIBA Stirling Prize shortlist features the vibrant reinvention of a 1960s Sheffield housing block Park Hill; the bar-raising suburban Essex housing development Newhall Be; a contemporary new holiday home within the burnt-out shell of the 12th century Astley Castle; the highly original and beautifully crafted Bishop Edward King Chapel; the dramatic and monumental Giant\u2019s Causeway Visitor Centre and the sculptural yet economic University of Limerick Medical School and student housing.<\/p>\n<p>The RIBA is working in partnership with the BBC on the 2013 RIBA Stirling Prize; The Architects\u2019 Journal is trade media partner.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s RIBA Stirling Prize shortlist features some \u2018fresh\u2019 architecture talent &#8211; five of the six practices are on the list for the first time, beating-off competition from previous winners including Sir David Chipperfield and Dame Zaha Hadid.
