{"id":6051,"date":"2013-06-28T18:35:30","date_gmt":"2013-06-28T17:35:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=6051"},"modified":"2013-06-28T18:35:30","modified_gmt":"2013-06-28T17:35:30","slug":"scotlands-new-architecture-policy-a-commitment-to-quality","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=6051","title":{"rendered":"Scotland\u2019s new architecture policy: A commitment to quality"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Scotland\u2019s new national policy on architecture, recently launched, has stressed the importance of enriching the people of Scotland\u2019s lives through quality buildings and places as the policy sets out a key role for Architecture + Design Scotland (A+DS) in championing good architecture and placemaking, also one of the key threads in the ongoing merger discussions between historic Scotland and RCAHMS<\/span>.<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u2018Creating Places\u2019 focuses on the value that \u2018Place\u2019 has for all of us &#8211; as individuals and as a society &#8211; the statement sets out an action plan which seeks commitment from the sector\u2019s decision makers to deliver the quality that Scotland\u2019s residents deserve.<\/p>\n<p>Culture Secretary, Fiona Hyslop joined Primary 4 children at the architectural award-winning Hillhead Primary School in Glasgow to launch the policy this morning.<\/p>\n<p>Ms Hyslop said: \u2018With a stronger emphasis on \u2018place\u2019 than ever before, this statement shows the important role that the built and natural environment play in supporting issues such as, improving our health and achieving stronger and more effective engagement with our communities. Importantly, this publication also shows our commitment to supporting our architecture and design sector. Together, we want to ensure that Scotland\u2019s buildings and places enrich our lives, lessen our environmental impact and contribute to our cultural and national identity. Overall, it sets out the Scottish Government\u2019s ambition for quality places throughout Scotland where people thrive for generations to come.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Joining Ms Hyslop at the launch were Architecture + Design Scotland (A+D S) Chair, Karen Anderson and Neil Baxter, Secretary and Treasurer at the Royal Institute of Architects Scotland (RIAS).<\/p>\n<p>Ms Anderson said: \u2018By shaping our places, architecture also says who we are as a nation. Architecture and placemaking can help us address the economic, social and environmental challenges we face in Scotland. This policy clearly demonstrates the Scottish Government\u2019s commitment to architecture and place in Scotland.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Also contained in the statement was a commitment by the Scottish Government to support the RIAS Festival of Architecture which will take place in 2016. Mr Baxter welcomed the support and said:<\/p>\n<p>\u2018The Government\u2019s support for the Festival of Architecture in 2016 is hugely welcome.
