and guest edited by IHBC full member Dennis Rodwell, with articles by leading authorities including Cliff Hague, Built Environment Forum Scotland (BEFS) Chair, and noted planning author and blogger<\/span>!<\/span><\/p>\n<p>As guest commissioning editor for this Scottish-themed issue of Context, IHBC member, architect and author Dennis Rodwell has selected a wide range of conservation topics across historic buildings, areas and management structures in Scotland:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Cliff Hague looks at the small towns that fall into the gap between Scotland\u2019s urban and rural policy, many of which have to cope with having lost their traditional economic base. \u2018Their strength\u2019, Hague suggests, \u2018is their diversity\u2019.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Allison Borden reports on the fate of two early 20th century reinforced-concrete buildings in Glasgow.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Justin Fenton delights in the restoration of the Scottish National Portrait Gallery in Edinburgh.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Roger Curtis looks at the role of older buildings in reducing resource and energy consumption.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Carol Cooke explains the role of planning guidance on place-making and design in the Scottish borders.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Sarah Kettles writes about the small town of Brechin\u2019s use of the Heritage Lottery Fund\u2019s Townscape Heritage Initiative and Historic Scotland\u2019s Conservation Area Regeneration Scheme.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211; Simon Gilmour writes about the future of archaeology in Scotland at a time when Scottish historic environment policy is being reviewed and Scotland\u2019s heritage data body, the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland is to merge with Historic Scotland.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;
