{"id":5554,"date":"2013-03-15T17:51:36","date_gmt":"2013-03-15T17:51:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=5554"},"modified":"2013-03-15T17:51:36","modified_gmt":"2013-03-15T17:51:36","slug":"cbi-joins-heritage-bodies-to-back-vat-cut-for-refurb-500m-for-80000-jobs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=5554","title":{"rendered":"CBI joins heritage bodies to back VAT cut for refurb: \u00a3500m for 80,000 jobs!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The Confederation of British Industry (CBI), the business lobby group, has followed the lead of mainstream heritage advocates and called for a VAT cut or subsidies for renovation and repair works, to create 80,000 jobs from a \u00a3500m investment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In an open letter to the Chancellor the CBI has asked for a critical \u2018short term\u2019 economic boost that could be achieved by encouraging \u2018refurbishment of existing housing stock through either a tax cut or subsidy to renovation and repair work\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">CBI Writes<\/span>:<br \/>\n\u2018Demand for refurbishment can be stimulated in the short term by either subsidising refurbishment work or through a VAT cut on all renovation and repair work on existing homes. This has the potential to create 80,000 jobs at a cost of no more than \u00a3500m.
