{"id":47411,"date":"2026-07-21T16:08:49","date_gmt":"2026-07-21T15:08:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=47411"},"modified":"2026-07-17T16:16:59","modified_gmt":"2026-07-17T15:16:59","slug":"uk-heritage-pulse-2026-may-intangible-cultural-heritage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=47411","title":{"rendered":"UK Heritage Pulse 2026: May (Intangible Cultural Heritage)"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"wp-block-image\">\n<figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/500px-Closeup_of_Welsh_cakes_February_2009.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"500\" height=\"371\" src=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/500px-Closeup_of_Welsh_cakes_February_2009.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-47412\" srcset=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/500px-Closeup_of_Welsh_cakes_February_2009.jpg 500w, https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/500px-Closeup_of_Welsh_cakes_February_2009-300x223.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-gray-color has-text-color has-link-color has-small-font-size wp-elements-1 wp-block-paragraph\"><em>image for illustration: Welsh Cakes, zingyyellow, <a href=\"https:\/\/commons.wikimedia.org\/wiki\/File:Closeup_of_Welsh_cakes,_February_2009.jpg\">CC BY 2.0, via Wikimedia Commons<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Heritage Fund\u2019s \u2018UK Heritage Pulse\u2019 has placed its current \u2018Spotlight\u2019 on Intangible Cultural Heritage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">UK Heritage Pulse writes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In May, we received 130 responses to at least one question about Intangible Cultural Heritage, or the monthly Pulse Monitor questions, which track the individual and organisational resilience of respondents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Key findings from the research exploring Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) and living heritage show:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Intangible Cultural Heritage is human and relational, rather than tied to a physical place. 85% agree a place loses meaning when its people disappear, and 79% agree something irreplaceable is lost when activities tied to a place end.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Words and stories are ICH\u2019s primary form, with 35% saying it is related to oral traditions and expressions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The panel are more likely to have completed self-guided, professional development specifically related to Intangible Cultural Heritage or living heritage, rather than training.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Dedicated funding or financial support would help the panel engage with Intangible Cultural Heritage.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Almost 40% were aware of the Heritage Crafts Red List, and some awareness of the other examples. 38% had no awareness of the available inventories\/risk lists.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Almost four-in-ten said Intangible Cultural Heritage was either \u2018central to our organisation\u2019s purpose\u2019, or that they have formal strategy. Only 6% \u2018don\u2019t knowingly engage\u2019 with it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Four-in-five respondents are very or fairly confident they can explain the meaning of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
