IHBC\u2019s latest Council received impressively positive feedback, but was very busy, so this NewsBlog<\/em> post spotlights a paper easily missed in this \u2018exploration of conservation services\u2019, our plans for a light-touch survey to shape our <\/u><\/em>response the 3rd of our Parliamentary \u20185 Commitments to Help Heritage Skills in Conservation<\/a>\u2026\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

IHBC Director Se\u00e1n O\u2019Reilly said: \u2018At Council we had a very tight timetable.  While that feature was welcomed by our many and busy delegates, it did mean we had to move rapidly.  So we\u2019re doing a suite of NewsBlog spotlights on some key resources and plans from the session.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018As you know, IHBC\u2019s Council is a members-only, live event, to enable the \u2018Chatham House<\/a>\u2019-styled discussions, so we can\u2019t make all public.  But of course, where we can, by agreement, we will.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For this NewsBlog we\u2019re spotlighting IHBC\u2019s newest staff member Sarah Homer<\/a>, who outlined to delegates our upcoming plans for a forthcoming survey, one still being shaped by our Council programme.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As Sarah explained:\u2026. \u2018In November 20025, the IHBC introduced its Heritage Skills in Conservation Report and the Paper \u2018From Crafts in Crisis to Rubbish in Retrofit..\u2019 which set out our \u20185 Commitments to Help Heritage Skills in Conservation<\/a>\u2026\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018The 3rd of these pledges responds to the fact that those heritage practitioners in regulatory roles face critical challenges that we need to help address.  However, before we leapt in, we knew we had to understand the issues better through a \u2018discovery\u2019 phase, and ask those officers just how we can best help!\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018The Council kick-started this \u2018discovery\u2019, as we plan an elective scoping survey. The aim is  to gain a clear understanding of the issues from those directly involved, and what solutions they might offer as we all seek to make a better service.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018It is intended only for all those Officers or consultants across the UK who offer advice on conservation matters on behalf of local authorities or their equivalent, from those directly employed in Conservation Officer roles to those offering advice as, or through, private contractors.  It is not limited to IHBC members.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Our agenda is focussed on Parliamentary advocacy, and wants to offer answers and results, so the survey itself will be quick, short and light-touch.  It will be launched soon, and we aim to collate responses over the summer, and look to presenting findings a Parliamentary Briefing in the Autumn.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n
