\u2018A core focus for us is on interdisciplinary built and historic conservation, so we both demand and support cross-discipline and cross-sector engagement.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018This round boasts opportunities that represent the wide range of conservation-related skills needed across government, national and third sectors \u2013 including as volunteers.  Key roles in this NewsBlog range from Cadw\u2019s Head of Monument Conservation to a Conservation Trustee role in English Heritage, as well as calls by The Royal Household for a Senior Building Surveyor and Building Surveyor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Consultant roles are also sought, as Neath Port Talbot Council issued a tender for a Conservation Management Plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Core users are, of course, those operating in local government, and they are also well represented this round.  Such posts typically reach across a range of areas that impact on conservation standards and, especially with these employers, public benefit.  Most notable too are areas around heritage control, as well as regeneration and, of course, design.  These include senior posts such as Surrey\u2019s \u2018Principal Historic Buildings Officer\u2019, Ashford\u2019s Senior Conservation Officer as well as Peterborough\u2019s Historic Environment and Design Team Leader and, in Norwich, a Conservation and Design Officer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The wide awareness of Conservation\u2019s fundamental link to holistic management – from control and regeneration to design – represents an important awareness by employers of the holistic compliance the IHBC captures in our conservation practice standards, assessment and regulatory priorities.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018That breadth is also embedded in the cross-discipline balance sought by the Brecon Beacons National Park Authority, as it calls for a Heritage\/Senior Heritage Officer (Building Conservation) Career Grade post.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Our direct financial support for conservation and related posts from charity employers \u2013 a user group to which we offer our subsidies up to c.25% – also helps attract employers that prioritise both value and public benefit in their appointments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both Hampstead Garden Suburb Trust\u2019s call for an Architectural Support Officer and The Friends of Friendless Churches (FoFC) search for an Estate Officer represent recognition from their sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018However, for any charity our Jobs etc<\/em> service costs are easily justified, even before the reductions.  Most Trustees understand how our service addresses regulatory concerns around transparency and credibility in appointment processes, and the associated risk management that charities must consider as they make such huge investments in appointments, and today more than ever!\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Widening this focus from conservation-led amenity-focussed employers to encompass heritage-linked employers with no less substantial community priorities, Church bodies, we also have informed bodies that see the value and benefits in accessing the IHBC\u2019s skilled networks.  For this round the Church of England (Birmingham) seeks a Diocesan Advisory Committee and Pastoral Secretary, the Diocese of Chelmsford an Historic Church Buildings Support Officer and the Diocese of Chichester a Church Buildings Team Leader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the private sector, employer interest in competitive services that reach across the spectrum of roles encompassed by the IHBC\u2019s accreditation – the IHBC\u2019s Conservation Cycle, and our Areas of Competence<\/a> \u2013 is also very evident, and at the same wide spectrum of career grades.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So in this round Iceni Projects\u2019 call for a Heritage Graduate\/Consultant has potential as a starter role, against which Aurora Heritage Planning\u2019s Heritage Consultant call might represent a more substantial post, and Stantec\u2019s Heritage Planning Director correspond to the most senior role.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018To find out more on our accreditation standards and processes, our MATE<\/a> and related sessions are designed help career-focussed, conservation-conscious practitioners secure IHBC accreditation, and at minimal cost.  These events guide members and networks on how to align their skills, knowledge and experience with the IHBC\u2019s own interdisciplinary assessment of conservation competence, a system aligned with national and international conservation practice standards<\/a>.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n
