\u2018This round again demonstrates the variety of roles that employers are looking to the IHBC for help to fill.  They recognise the same service standards and values captured in our Charter-linked discussions:  delivering public benefit by supporting competence in conservation practice across the built and historic environment, as well as personal benefits, by highlighting the degree to which IHBC credentials can help your career, whatever your discipline or level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Our core focus is on interdisciplinary built and historic conservation, so we both demand and support cross-discipline and cross-sector engagement.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Our success in supporting members\u2019 conservation practice and networks also means that our Jobs etc<\/em> service can reach far beyond our specialist core network. That success also means that our model of conservation skills and competence \u2013 the IHBC\u2019s Conservation Cycle \u2013 can play critical role in employers\u2019 evaluation of the abilities and the potential of candidates.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018As regular readers of these NewsBlogs know, career opportunities on the IHBC Jobs etc.<\/em><\/a>service typically range widely across sectors, skills, employers, locations and roles.  However all reflect a common objective: to secure the right person for the post.  They also share a strategy as they target IHBC members, their skills and our wide-ranging networks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018With this service we can make sure that our job posts reach the right people, whatever their level, sector or practice area.  And the jobs advertised confirm that.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018This round, posts that represent the wide range of conservation-related skills needed across government, national and third sector this round include the Planning Inspectorate\u2019s call for Planning Inspectors; Historic England\u2019s calls for a Senior Building Conservation Advisor and an Inspector of Historic Buildings and Areas, and the Lochwinnoch Community Development Trust (LCDT), which is continuing its opportunity to Tender for a Heritage Activity and Interpretation Consultant.  That last captures another take on how our Jobs etc<\/em> service \u2013 and IHBC credentials \u2013 can benefit your career, whatever you specialism.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018There are many others too, especially from a key sector of our core users, those operating in local government.  These posts also reach across a range of areas that impact on conservation standards and public benefit, notably in heritage regulation around conservation and regeneration and, especially in this round, design.  These include the high-level posts at Shropshire, for a Senior Conservation Officer; at Sheffield, for a Principal Conservation Officer; at Swindon for a Senior Design and Conservation Officer and at Westminster, a Senior Design, Conservation and Sustainability Officer.  This last marks an important trend as \u2013 most usefully signifying the wider awareness of Conservation fundamentals \u2013 increasingly we see conservation tied with sustainability as well as design.  This holistic take for managing change complies fully with the conservation practice standards captured in our assessment and regulatory models.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018That compliance is also embedded in more mainstream roles on our service, such as Dorset\u2019s Conservation and Design Officer and the more generic, such as East Suffolk\u2019s Heritage Officer.  It also is central to the Lake District National Park\u2019s post of World Heritage Site Coordinator, where understanding, care and informed change of a heritage resource need to operate in harmony for successful conservation outcomes.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Widening this focus from conservation-led employers to encompass heritage-linked employers more generally are the Church Buildings Support Officer roles posted for the Diocese of Hereford and the Diocese of Truro.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Moving into the private sector, the astute employer interest in our service for competence across all career stages is also captured by Heritage Unlimited\u2019s call for a Heritage Consultant and Purcell\u2019s call for a Senior\/Associate Heritage Consultant as well as the Pegasus Group\u2019s call for a Principal Heritage Consultant.  Node\u2019s post of Senior Heritage & Townscape Consultant represents a welcome widening in the focus of a heritage-led role in the private sector, if perhaps also reflecting the scale of the service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018The suite of roles this round all re-affirm the core public interest priorities that underpin this IHBC service.  But they also capture the broad spectrum of roles encompassed by the IHBC\u2019s accreditation: the IHBC\u2019s Conservation Cycle, our IHBC Areas of Competence<\/a>, and the skills that are, and can be, represented there.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018To find out more on our accreditation standards and processes, our MATE<\/a> and related sessions are designed help career-focussed, conservation-conscious practitioners secure IHBC accreditation, and at minimal cost.  These events guide members and networks on how to align their skills, knowledge and experience with the IHBC\u2019s own interdisciplinary assessment of conservation competence, a system aligned with national and international conservation practice standards<\/a>.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n
