IHBC writes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This month two IHBC Branches are holding their AGM\u2019s linked to a day of valuable structured CPD opportunity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Friday 13th March, IHBC South-East Branch are holding their Annual School and AGM, entitled Concrete and candy floss: Seaside structures of the 20th century<\/em>. The full day includes presentations from eminent professionals on the challenges of conserving our iconic seaside heritage with a focus on reinforced concrete repair and conservation, including case studies of Saltdean Lido and the De La Warr Pavilion. There will also be guided tours of the De La Warr Pavilion, followed by optional networking at the Picture Playhouse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Later in the month on the 26 March, IHBC West Midlands Branch are holding their AGM at Walsall Council House, Walsall. They have coordinated the AGM with a timely CPD Event focused on Planning Balance and Heritage Law<\/em>. Speakers include Michael Brereton, Director of Development and Regulation and Dr Ashley Bowes, Barrister, Landmark Chambers. During the lunch break in the Town Hall, there will be the option to tour the tower with Ian Lister, or listen to an organ recital.

Other branch events include the IHBC South Branch Spring event on 20 March. The CPD day will be spent at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and The Victory Live Conservation Project. It will cover all IHBC Competencies with a guided tour of the historic Dockyard by Dr Ann Coates, discussion of the consent and decision-making process with Rosemary Thornber, Principal Heritage Advisor, HMS Victory, and a guided visit on the scaffold of The HMS Victory with a specialist Shipwright discussing the ongoing repairs to the ship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IHBC President\u2019s \u2018Members only\u2019 Invitation to next Virtual Council: Online, 8 April 2026, from 4.30pm \u2013 Scoping \u2018Investigation\u2019 of conservation in local government, with a call for suggestions etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IHBC members should have received their invitation from our President, Rebecca Thompson<\/a>, to join in our new-style and \u2018members-only\u2019 online Council from 4.30pm on 8 April, when, as well as Charters & much more, we start to \u2018investigate conservation roles and services in local government\u2019 \u2013 part of our 3rd Parliamentary Commitment<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IHBC President Rebecca Thompson<\/a> writes:  Please do join us at our next virtual IHBC Council, on Wednesday 8 April from c.4.30pm for more of our exclusive, unique and member-led Council CPD.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This Council sees the opening of our response to the 3rd of our Parliamentary \u20185 Commitments to Help Heritage Skills in Conservation<\/a>\u2026\u2019 presented in Westminster last November.  It opens our \u2018investigation\u2019 of heritage management in regulatory contexts, starting with a light-touch scoping of issues around local Conservation Officers and Services across the UK.  Some 5 or so short, member-led presentations on topical issues will frame our initial planning and future investigations, all also informed by your contributions online and apart.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For this April Council too there are even more opportunities for updates, queries and discussions.  As members, you can help shape the debate and content in advance through the \u2018Suggestions Form\u2019 linked below, as we call on you to tell us what you want to hear about or explore, whether as advice, thoughts or guidance, both for this Council and for the future!

Nominations for the IHBC Marsh Awards close on 31 March 2026
The annual IHBC Marsh Awards help thank and celebrate practitioners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The award for Successful Learning in Heritage Skills is designed to recognise the contribution of an individual for their significant learning in traditional building activities and craft skills. Applicants can be any age and may have changed career paths.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Community Contribution (Retired Member) award is to recognise the invaluable work of retired conservation professionals giving back to their local communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nominate them NOW for an IHBC-MARSH Award<\/a> to celebrate their contributions!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The deadline of 31 March is approaching for nominations!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Both awards support the IHBC\u2019s work as we help keep the essential conservation skills and knowledge alive through training, teaching, shared experience and example.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
