\u2018This round again demonstrates the variety of roles that employers are looking to the IHBC for help to fill.  They recognise the same service standards and values captured in our Charter-linked discussions:  delivering public benefit by supporting competence in conservation practice across the built and historic environment, as well as personal benefits, by highlighting the degree to which IHBC credentials can help your career, whatever your discipline or level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018As our core focus is on interdisciplinary built and historic conservation, we both demand and support cross-discipline and cross-sector engagement.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Our success in supporting members\u2019 conservation practice and networks also means that our Jobs etc<\/em> service can reach far beyond our specialist core network. That success also means that our model of conservation skills and competence \u2013 the IHBC\u2019s Conservation Cycle \u2013 can play critical role in employers\u2019 evaluation of the abilities and the potential of candidates.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018As regular readers of these NewsBlogs know, career opportunities on the IHBC Jobs etc.<\/em><\/a> service typically range widely across sectors, skills, employers, locations and roles.  However all reflect a common objective: to secure the right person for the post.  They also share a strategy as they target IHBC members, their skills and our wide-ranging networks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With this service we can make sure that our job posts reach the right people, whatever their level, sector or practice area.  And the jobs advertised confirm that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two posts that represent the wide impact at government and national levels this round are the high-level role in Cadw, of Chief Inspector of Historic Buildings and Monuments, and English Heritage\u2019s call for a Building Conservation Manager.  Complementing these, at a more local level and with a different employment model, is the Consultant Tender from Lochwinnoch Community Development Trust (LCDT) for a Heritage Activity and Interpretation Consultant.  That captures another take on how our Jobs etc<\/em> service – and IHBC credentials – can benefit your career, whatever you specialism.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thers\u2019s many others too, especially from our key sector of core users in local government.  These also reach across a range of areas that impact on conservation standards and public benefit, notably in heritage regulation around conservation and regeneration.  In this round we see such posts at North Warwickshire, calling for a Heritage and Conservation Assistant; Cheshire, for a Heritage and Conservation Officer, and Winchester and its call for a Historic Environment Officer (Conservation).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Widening this focus from conservation to encompass heritage more generally, and also of the breadth of employers, is the call for a Head of Property and Facilities from St Albans Cathedral, as we see an church body seeking facilities management competence with core conservation skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Similarly, the University of Oxford\u2019s Compliance Surveyor and Building Surveyor posts reflect the breadth of careers relevant to our discipline, even when not core to it.   As such they show again the IHBC\u2019s interdisciplinary focus and cross-sector reach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Moving into the private sector the astute employer interest in our service for proportionate competence at all career stages is captured by TCMS Heritage\u2019s calls for a  Senior Heritage Consultant \/ Associate Director; Place Services\u2019 post for an Assistant Built Heritage Consultant \/ Built Heritage Consultant; Node\u2019s for a Senior Heritage & Townscape Consultant and Purcell for a  Senior \/ Associate Heritage Consultant.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018This suite of roles all re-affirm the core public interest priorities that underpin this IHBC service.  But they also capture the broad spectrum of roles encompassed by the IHBC\u2019s accreditation: the IHBC\u2019s Conservation Cycle, our IHBC Areas of Competence<\/a>, and the skills that are, and can be, represented there.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018To find out more on our accreditation standards and processes, our MATE<\/a> and related sessions are designed help career-focussed, conservation-conscious practitioners secure IHBC accreditation, and at minimal cost.  These events guide members and networks on how to align their skills, knowledge and experience with the IHBC\u2019s own interdisciplinary assessment of conservation competence, a system aligned with national and international conservation practice standards<\/a>.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n
