{"id":45039,"date":"2026-01-09T18:22:34","date_gmt":"2026-01-09T18:22:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=45039"},"modified":"2026-01-09T18:22:34","modified_gmt":"2026-01-09T18:22:34","slug":"ihbc-celebrates-sahgb-2025-annual-awards-including-sahgb-ihbc-heritage-research-award-success-at-hespr-member-donald-insall-associates","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=45039","title":{"rendered":"IHBC celebrates SAHGB 2025 Annual Awards, including SAHGB-IHBC Heritage Research Award success at HESPR member Donald Insall Associates"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/newsblogsnew.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/SAHGB_IHBC.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/newsblogsnew.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/SAHGB_IHBC.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-30365\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The IHBC is delighted to celebrate and congratulate the winners of this year\u2019s Society of Architectural Historians of Great Britain (SAHGB) awards, including the joint <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sahgb.org.uk\/heritage-research-award\">SAHGB-IHBC Heritage Research Award<\/a>, awarded to Dr Victoria Perry and Isabelle Adamthwaite of IHBC HESPR member <a href=\"https:\/\/ihbc.org.uk\/hesprdatares\/insall.html\">Donald Insall Associates<\/a> (DIA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>IHBC Director Se\u00e1n O\u2019Reilly said: \u2018This was a strong year for candidates but I\u2019m delighted to hear that work from DIA \u2013 an IHBC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ihbc.org.uk\/hespr\/\">HESPR<\/a> Company &#8211; has been recognised this way too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018I\u2019d also like to thank especially <a href=\"https:\/\/www.architecturalhistory.co.uk\/pages\/neil-burton\">Neil Burton IHBC<\/a>, Director at the <a href=\"https:\/\/ihbc.org.uk\/hesprdatares\/ahp.html\">Architectural History Practice<\/a> \u2013 another IHBC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ihbc.org.uk\/hespr\/\">HESPR<\/a> company \u2013 for his role as a judge on our behalf\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018Hopefully a further highlight of this success will be the opportunity for the DIA report\u2019s authors to join us at our <a href=\"https:\/\/newcastle2026.ihbc.org.uk\/\">2026 Annual School in Newcastle<\/a> in June.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>SAHGB writes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are pleased to congratulate the winners of this year\u2019s Society of Architectural Historians of Great Britain awards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alice Davis Hitchcock Medallion: Awarded annually since 1959 to a monograph that makes an outstanding contribution to the study or knowledge of architectural history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Winner: Andr\u00e9 Tavares, Architecture Follows Fish: An Amphibious History of the North Atlantic (The MIT Press)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Commendation: Dana Arnold, Women and Architectural History: The Monstrous Regiment Then and Now (Routledge)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>From a strong shortlist, the SAHGB Colvin Prize is awarded to Reclaiming Colonial Architecture, edited by Tania Sengupta and Stuart King and featuring essays by 45 authors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Winner: Tania Sengupta and Stuart King, Reclaiming Colonial Architecture (RIBA Publishing)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Hawksmoor Essay Medal<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To encourage new and unpublished entrants to the field of architectural history, the Society&#8217;s Essay Medal (popularly known as &#8216;the Hawksmoor&#8217;) is awarded annually to the author of the best essay submitted in competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Commendation: Tom Joashi: Staging a Tragedy: On the Refurbishment of the Louvre and the St. Bartholomew\u2019s Day Massacre (1572)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Winner: Nicholas Forrest Frayne: Nyayo House as a Political Tool: The Politics of Temporal Control<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The SAHGB-IHBC Heritage Research Award recognises and celebrates the quality of architectural-historical research produced by colleagues in heritage and conservation practice, as private consultants and in non-departmental public bodies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Commendation: Dr Michael Dring, Continuity in the Modernist City: The Heritage Activism of Save Smallbrook, Birmingham (Birmingham City University)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Winner: Dr Victoria Perry and Isabelle Adamthwaite (Donald Insall Associates), Georgetown, Guyana (Excerpt from Georgetown Conservation Area Management Plan 2025)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The Dissertation Prizes<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This prize celebrates the outstanding work in architectural history being carried out by postgraduate students on taught Masters-level courses in UK universities.
