The Institute of Historic Building Conservation (IHBC) has warmly welcomed the approval from the Privy Council Office (PCO) for the submission of a Petition for Charter following its review of our Memorandum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

IHBC Chair David McDonald said ‘I am pleased that we have received such a positive response from the Privy Council Office.  It is a tribute all the hard work that has gone on so far by IHBC Staff, Trustees and advisers to get us to this stage. I look forward to leading the Institute in its possible progression to a formal Petition for Charter application.’<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IHBC President Rebecca Thompson said: \u2018This is a very proud moment for the IHBC, and indeed for all Conservation Professionals and heritage stakeholders.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018We now have confirmation from the Privy Council \u2013 a key mechanism in our government \u2013 of the potential for the IHBC to secure formal recognition of our own unique discipline: the practice of Historic and Built Environment Conservation.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In response to the IHBC\u2019s case for a Charter \u2013 the recently submitted \u2018Memorandum\u2019 – Mrs Ceri King, LVO, Head of Secretariat & Deputy Clerk of the Privy Council, advised the IHBC\u2019s Director as follows: ‘Advisors have no specific concerns at this stage and are content for the Institute to progress to the next stage of the application process and produce your draft Petition, Charter and Byelaws.’<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IHBC Director Dr Sean O’Reilly said: ‘The IHBC\u2019s case for a Charter was founded first on our unique structural approach to the regulation of members\u2019 interdisciplinary conservation practice.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018That case was underpinned by the rigour of our procedures, attested to also by the strength of member and sector support for our work, as well as the wider public benefit inherent in both the IHBC\u2019s corporate priorities and the conservation work of our members.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018We are delighted that the PCO accepted that case\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n
