The IHBC is delighted to announce that Duncan Wilson CBE, Chief Executive at Historic England, will offer an online welcome and take questions at the IHBC\u2019s Shrewsbury Day School on 13 June \u2013 #IHBCShrewsbury2025 \u2013 opening a unique day of insights, learning, discussion and investigation into how context and conservation combine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

Duncan Wilson writes: \u2018The IHBC Annual School is one of the pre-eminent regular events in the heritage calendar, an important opportunity for those of us who share the passion of historic building conservation to come together, reflect on key developments and learn from each other. This year is no exception, particularly in the context of a new government with its energy, focus and commitment on growth, homes and decarbonisation. I\u2019m looking forward to sharing views on where heritage intersects with this mission-led agenda and what might need to change\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IHBC Chair David McDonald said: \u2018Having the Chief Executive of Historic England welcome delegates online \u2013 and take questions too – is especially relevant to our Shrewsbury School.  For 2025 we are taking a rounded look at \u2018Context\u2019 in the valuing, planning and change of historic places, and Historic England plays a key role in shaping, informing \u2013 or even giving context to – our members\u2019 practice standards and learning wherever they are in the UK or beyond.  Clearly, this is too good a chance to miss!\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IHBC Director Se\u00e1n O\u2019Reilly said: \u2018Historic England is another highlight across a hugely broad sweep of partners contributing to our Shrewsbury School.  As governments across the UK take increasingly independent views of how historic places are managed in the context of their wider policy objectives \u2013 from social and environmental to economic and cultural \u2013 it\u2019s all the more important to hear just how Duncan sees Historic England\u2019s role today, and how it might be changing\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
