{"id":4290,"date":"2012-06-08T15:13:02","date_gmt":"2012-06-08T15:13:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=4290"},"modified":"2012-06-08T15:52:43","modified_gmt":"2012-06-08T15:52:43","slug":"grade-ii-birmingham-fire-station-makeover-criticised-by-design-council","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=4290","title":{"rendered":"Grade II Birmingham fire station makeover criticised by Design Council"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The proposed conversion of the Grade II-listed former central fire station in Birmingham to provide student accommodation, including a 23-storey tower and commercial uses, has been criticised by the Cabe Design Council.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The latest report from the design review panel said it remained \u2018unconvinced\u2019 the design concept was the right approach for this site.<\/p>\n<p>The report said: \u2018The proposed new building does not complement or enhance the existing building or its wider setting. We also remain concerned about the long-term sustainability of the scheme and its relationship with the neighbouring Aston University Campus.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018We think there is potential to deliver a convincing design solution for this site which responds to the townscape quality of the listed building. We continue to urge the design team to rethink the scheme.
