The IHBC has received a record 50+ submissions to our 2024 Student Awards, all hoping guest judge, Nathan Baker – new Chief Executive (CE) at the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists (CIfA) \u2013 will choose them for the coveted and certificated Award, \u00a3500 cash, and a place at IHBC\u2019s 2025 Annual School \u2013 #IHBCShrewsbury2025 – on 12-14 June.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

IHBC Director Se\u00e1n O\u2018Reilly said: \u2018On behalf of the IHBC I\u2019d like to thank the many students who have taken the trouble to submit for our celebrated Gus Astley Annual Student Award.\u00a0 Seeing the breadth, depth and diversity of submissions to this award is always both eye-opening and jaw-dropping.\u00a0 And even more so this year as submissions have nearly doubled from our quieter years.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Our 2024 round had to close at the end of September, a month later than usual.  Assessment is not easy for anyone when this happens, as evaluation times are even tighter.  And with a record submission this year \u2013 over 50 \u2013 the entire process is even busier\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018But I know that our generous guest judge for 2024 \u2013 Nathan Baker of the CIfA \u2013 and our internal lead on the Awards, Bob Kindred, will do all they can to keep us to schedule, with conclusions due in 2025\u2019s first quarter.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018And already we have learned something that may help future arrangements: a closing date in September rather than August might help students too.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018For now, we have no plans to change the August closing date for the 2025 round, but if the later date this year is really more useful for students, we will look at that option very carefully\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
