The IHBC is delighted to welcome Nathan Baker, new Chief Executive (CE) at the Chartered Institute for Archaeologists (CIfA), as our guest judge for IHBC\u2019s 2024 Gus Astley Student Award, while his choice (& others) will receive certificates, cash prizes & a free place at IHBC\u2019s 2025 Annual School – #IHBCShrewsbury2025 – 12-14 June.<\/h3>\n

Nathan said: \u2018It is a privilege to have been asked to judge this year’s awards. I am looking forward to seeing how value is viewed and being created by those coming into the sector. As a newcomer to Heritage I am excited to see the breadth and depth of submissions and the innovative thinking that will set the agenda for years to come.\u2019<\/p>\n

Nathan\u2019s summary biography<\/strong><\/p>\n

Following an early career in insurance, Nathan commissioned into the British Army. After exploring the world in service of Queen and Country he moved into industry, initially with a learning and development focus. Having re-designed the learning programmes for the UK arm of a \u20ac1Bn European construction product manufacturer, he drove the transformation of training on a \u00a33.2 Bn Public Private Partnership with the Ministry of Defence.<\/p>\n

Taking his commercial and technical experience, he became the Strategy and Development Director for the Sector Skills Council for the energy and utilities sectors, before moving to the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) as Director of Engineering Knowledge. His experience as Chief Executive at a public health research charity, couple with his understanding of public, private and not-for-profit sectors come together in his role at CIfA.<\/p>\n

Nathan was made an Honorary Professor in Computing, Engineering and Media by DeMontfort University in 2019. He is a Co-opted member of IOSH Council and has been in various advisory roles to professional bodies, charities and industry groups.<\/p>\n
