{"id":4062,"date":"2012-04-13T17:11:59","date_gmt":"2012-04-13T17:11:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/newsachive\/?p=4062"},"modified":"2013-05-30T09:56:18","modified_gmt":"2013-05-30T09:56:18","slug":"ihbc-2012-school-significance-early-bird-rates-end-20-april","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=4062","title":{"rendered":"IHBC 2012 School: &#8216;Significance&#8217; &#8211; &#8216;early bird&#8217; rates end 20 April"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">The \u2018early bird\u2019 booking rates for the IHBC\u2019s 2012 Annual School in Winchester will finish on 20 April, and as its theme of \u2018Significance\u2019 has special urgency following England\u2019s current tight focus on conservation policy, heritage professionals seeking current insights and relevant CPD should book now to ensure that costs are kept to a minimum.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Jo Evans, IHBC Chair said: \u2018I would like to urge and cajole all those who are thinking about booking a place at the Annual School to do it as soon as possible to take advantage of the very short time left available to make the most of the early bird booking.\u2019<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Theme:<\/span> The 2012 School examines \u2018Significance\u2019, including associated principles such as \u2018special interest\u2019 and the processes for assessing value, with a unique and especially timely programme of CPD \u2013 up to 18 hours, depending on personal CPD priorities \u2013 designed to cater for all specialists working in the historic environment.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Relevance<\/span>: With the arrival of the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) in England, and the demise of the PPSs, there is a new urgency to understanding how ideas around &#8216;Significance&#8217; shape the management of our heritage, and how &#8216;special interest&#8217; continues to underpin statutory duties.\u00a0 Consequently, how we identify values in our cultural heritage, and how those values shape conservation advice and strategies, are more relevant than ever.\u00a0 Indeed the theme of the 2012 School represents some of the most challenging areas for the historic environment specialist today, especially as we try so hard to cater to so many &#8211; and such diverse &#8211; interests.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Structure &amp; Options<\/span>: The School has a flexible structure, with options around both a single Day School of lectures, and a 3-day residential or non-residential School that includes relevant tours and visits, all carefully structured to address key areas of CPD \u2013 with up to 13 hours of structured CPD and 5 for networking and more informal CPD \u2013 altogether ensuring maximum training benefits for delegates and their employers.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Content<\/span>: Both Full and Day Schools will provide delegates from all specialist backgrounds with opportunities to hear the latest thinking on who decides what significance is, how it can be determined, and what its role is in conservation.\u00a0 Deciding on the value of our heritage is the essential first step in assessing how best to care for it, because if we don\u2019t understand what is significant, we cannot be sure that we will care properly for what we value, or allocate limited resources efficiently.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Day School<\/span>: The Day School brings together speakers from diverse specialist backgrounds who will explain and explore how we assess and protect significance of buildings, landscapes and sites today, and consider how we might improve those processes for the future.\u00a0 It includes access to a wide range of exhibitors.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Full School<\/span>: This includes specialist site visits, and additional networking events in historic settings.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Support &amp; location<\/span>: The School, which is supported by English Heritage as well as by a host of other conservation interests, will be based in the historic city of Winchester.
