{"id":40023,"date":"2024-05-25T16:11:58","date_gmt":"2024-05-25T15:11:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsblogsnew.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=40023"},"modified":"2024-05-26T11:11:27","modified_gmt":"2024-05-26T10:11:27","slug":"ihbcs-2024-marsh-awards-now-out-david-blackburn-ihbc-yorkshire-retired-and-damian-williams-successful-learning-with-presentations-places-at-ihbcreadi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=40023","title":{"rendered":"IHBC\u2019s 2024 Marsh Awards now out: David Blackburn (IHBC Yorkshire) \u2018Retired\u2019 and Damian Williams \u2018Successful Learning\u2019 with presentations &#038; places at #IHBCReading2024"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-32224 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/IHBC-Marsh-Award-joint-1024x357.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"494\" height=\"172\" \/>Judges in this ninth year of the IHBC Marsh Charitable Trust Awards are delighted to announce the 2024 Awards, with the winner of the \u2018Community Contribution by a Retired Member of the IHBC\u2019 category going to David Blackburn (Yorkshire Branch), and the winner of the \u2018Successful Learning in Heritage Skills\u2019 going to Damian Williams of Williams Conservation.<\/h3>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">\u2026\u00a3500 and the option of a free full residential place at the IHBC\u2019s upcoming Annual School in Reading\u2026<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n<p>Each award winner is to receive \u00a3500 and the option of a free full residential place at the IHBC\u2019s upcoming <a href=\"https:\/\/reading2024.ihbc.org.uk\/\">Annual School in Reading from 12\/13-15 June<\/a> 2024.<\/p>\n<p>IHBC Marsh Award judges were especially impressed with David Blackburn\u2019s breadth of contributions after his retirement in 2016, including involvement as ICS trustee and committee member, Bradford Building Preservation Trust, National Trust Volunteers, in local awards campaigns, campaigns to get local buildings listed, and contributions to local and neighbourhood plans.<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">&#8230;I would recommend all younger heritage specialists to try volunteer work&#8230;[David Blackburn]<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n<p>David said: \u2018It is an honour to be a recipient of a Marsh Award, I have always tried to give some time volunteering at all stages in my career.\u00a0 It has given me and still does, great pleasure and satisfaction.\u00a0 Whilst I appreciate the pressures in today\u2019s work environment I would recommend all younger heritage specialists to try volunteer work, it is needed more than ever..\u2019<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">&#8230;Judges appreciated Damian Williams\u2019s passion to conserve the built heritage&#8230;<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n<p>Judges appreciated Damian Williams\u2019s passion to conserve the built heritage and his dedication to continue learning and advancing his skills.\u00a0 With a NVQ Level 3 in Lime Plastering, he undertook a MA in Conservation of the Historic Environment at Birmingham City University (IHBC Recognised Course), earning a Distinction.<\/p>\n<p>Damian said: \u2018Thank you to the Marsh Charitable Trust &amp; IHBC for this award.\u00a0 Pride is always an awkward emotion for me to feel, in fact I\u2019m a little embarrassed for winning such a prestigious award. But one that I will happily accept.
