In London, the joint Richmond etc. & Wandsworth Council seeks a Senior Conservation and Urban Design Officer and Conservation and Design Officer, while Enfield is advertising for a Conservation Officer and, elsewhere, East Suffolk is looking for a Heritage Officer or Assistant Heritage Officer and Manchester City a Planning Officer, Urban Design and Heritage.

Regardless of levels of roles or scales of experience, each post relies in some way on the holistic and interdisciplinary standards in the IHBC’s conservation accreditation.

And that diversification of titles and nuancing of roles is also reflected in potentially quite different contexts across the third and ecclesiastical sector, as they increasingly invest in the IHBC’s conservation framework of standards and skills: in Scotland Inverness City Heritage Trust seeks a Manager, while in England The Church of England Diocese of Chelmsford seeks a Diocesan Advisory Committee Secretary and both Dioceses of Chelmsford and Blackburn call for Church Buildings Support Officers.

‘Of course the private sector is responsible for the care and curation of the vast majority of our heritage resources. So it is both gratifying and heartening to see the high regard for our standards across some of the best of the more commercially-focussed operations. And, in confirmation, this round we see HCUK Group calling for a Heritage Consultant – Director; Janus Conservation Ltd for a Historic Building Surveyor; Purcell, for a Heritage Consultant, and Alan Baxter for a Heritage Team Consultant.

If the scale of posts on our ‘Jobs etc’ service just now is less dramatic than in more recent years – reflecting as it does the wider economic downturn – they still capture well the exceptionally wide spectrum of relevant roles encompassed by the IHBC’s accreditation model, the IHBC Areas of Competence, and the skills represented there.’

‘To find out more on such matters, our MATE and related sessions support accreditation, while they also delve into the IHBC’s Competences and Conservation Cycle. As such they help applicants’ align their skills to the principles we use to assess interdisciplinary competence, all in line with national and international conservation practice standards.’

Current and recent posts (some now closed) on IHBC Jobs etc. include:

Chatham Historic Dockyard Trust: Director of Estates and Preservation

Diocese of Blackburn: Church Buildings Support Officer

East Suffolk Council: Heritage Officer or Assistant Heritage Officer

Diocese of Chelmsford: Church Buildings Support Officer

Inverness City Heritage Trust: Manager

Manchester City Council: Planning Officer, Urban Design and Heritage

HCUK Group: Heritage Consultant – Director

Janus Conservation Ltd: Historic Building Surveyor

Historic Environment Scotland: Senior Project Officer

The Royal Household: Senior Building Surveyor

The Royal Household: Property Project Manager

London Borough of Enfield: Conservation Officer

London Boroughs of Richmond upon Thames and Wandsworth: Senior Conservation and Urban Design Officer and Conservation and Design Officer

Purcell: Heritage Consultant

Church of England: Volunteer Professional Advisors – Building Services, Sustainability, and the Environment

Alan Baxter: Heritage Team Consultant

The Church of England Diocese of Chelmsford: Diocesan Advisory Committee Secretary

IHBC Jobs etc offers advertisers:

Special reductions for posts specifying skills in conservation (10%) and heritage (5%)

Additional reductions for charities (25%)

Even more reductions for bulk sales (just ask!)

Free cross-promotion in IHBC’s HESPR ‘Weekly News and tender Alert’, where relevant

IHBC Jobs etc posts feature regularly on the ever popular IHBC NewsBlogs

Circulation data feedback as standard.

IHBC Jobs etc offers:

2600+ specialist and personal contact network (IHBC members and non-members) by individual email

Feature page, illustration and summary on the IHBC Jobs etc website

IHBC website homepage link (c.300,000 page visits/month)

IHBC’s social networks (c.18,000 core users;
