Firstly, as the highly regarded chief executive of Sheffield council from 1997 to 2008, Lord Kerslake played a pivotal role in the regeneration of the city centre. He left that role to become the first chief executive of the Homes and Regeneration Agency, now known as Homes England, upon its foundation.

Lord Kerslake then entered the civil service to become permanent secretary of the then Department for Communities and Local Government. After leaving the civil service in 2015, he took on a range of roles, including chairing the Peabody Trust and overseeing the House of Lords 2070 Commission into rebalancing regional inequalities, displaying what seemed like a tireless energy.

We were honoured when Lord Kerslake became one of the first members of the APPG on Conservation, Places and People, agreeing to take on a role as vice-chair.

His family have asked that people who would like to can send a donation in his memory to the homelessness charity St Mungo’s via the following link:
https://checkout.mungos.org/in-memory/.

We have been informed that currently it is planned that a celebration of life event will be held in October, further details regarding which will be sent out in due course.

In the meantime, I am sure you would like to join me in expressing the APPG’s condolences to Lord Kerslake’s family in their sad loss. I will be in touch very soon with further details of next week’s APPG meeting on high streets.

See more on the APPG at conservationplacespeople.appg.info

For more background see the NewsBlog

See the Local Government Association (LGA) tribute page

The IHBC-supported, UK-wide All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for ‘Conservation, Places and People’ has offered condolences to the family of the late Lord ‘Bob’ Kerslake, its former vice chair, both in writing and in person at its recent Parliamentary briefing, … Continue reading →

[1

post-37008","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-ihbc-newsblog
["GET
