{"id":36812,"date":"2023-06-17T14:38:35","date_gmt":"2023-06-17T13:38:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsblogsnew.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=36812"},"modified":"2023-06-16T19:22:33","modified_gmt":"2023-06-16T18:22:33","slug":"ihbc-updates-our-retrofitting-of-traditional-buildings-guidance-note-for-online-toolbox-and-ihbcswansea2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=36812","title":{"rendered":"IHBC updates our \u2018Retrofitting of Traditional Buildings\u2019 Guidance Note for online ToolBox and #IHBCSwansea2023"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-16313\" src=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/Toolbox-Guidance-Notes-icon-e1501864936231.jpg\" alt=\"Toolbox Guidance Notes icon\" width=\"250\" height=\"175\" \/>The IHBC has issued an new update of the <em>Guidance Note<\/em> on \u2018Retrofitting of Traditional Buildings\u2019, free on our online <a href=\"https:\/\/ihbc.org.uk\/toolbox\/\">ToolBox<\/a>, supporting our <a href=\"https:\/\/swansea2023.ihbc.org.uk\/\">2023 Swansea School<\/a> programme on \u2018Climate Change and the Historic Environment\u2019.<\/h3>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><em>Note<\/em> author and IHBC Technical Panel lead John Edwards said: \u2018We understand that climate change is the biggest issue ever.\u00a0 Though it will take more than making buildings more energy efficient to address it, our contribution to this launch was to illustrate the IHBC\u2019s holistic approach to energy efficient building retrofit.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018This is a conscious response to some of the more blinkered approaches to the retrofitting of buildings, remembering that we all have a responsibility to promote good practice, and should take every opportunity to do so.\u2019<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>John Edwards writes in <em>Retrofitting of Traditional Buildings\u2019<\/em>:<\/p>\n<p>Buildings are and will continue to be under pressure to be made more energy efficient and whilst this is sensible, experience to date suggests that risks of unintended consequences are common. Retrofit is also required to mitigate the effects of climate change.<\/p>\n<p>This guidance, which also covers other energy efficiency improvement work in addition to retrofit, intends to provide an outline on the most appropriate approach, which is a holistic one.
