{"id":36175,"date":"2023-04-14T17:36:34","date_gmt":"2023-04-14T16:36:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsblogsnew.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=36175"},"modified":"2023-04-14T17:36:34","modified_gmt":"2023-04-14T16:36:34","slug":"heritage-fund-24m-awarded-to-heritage-projects-across-the-uk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=36175","title":{"rendered":"Heritage Fund: \u00a324M+ awarded to heritage projects across the UK"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-36176\" src=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/Mantellodon_in_Crystal_Palace_Park_Ian_Wright_Commons_Wiki_300px.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/>The Heritage Fund has reported on how &#8211; from John O\u2019Groats to Penzance, across Wales and Northern Ireland \u2013 it is supporting the protection and conservation of parks, built heritage, memories and more.<\/h3>\n<h6><em>image: for illustration &#8211; by Ian Wright &#8211; 088 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/commons.wikimedia.org\/w\/index.php?curid=36823807\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dinosaurs in Crystal Palace Park<\/a>, CC BY-SA 2.0<\/em><\/h6>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">\u2026 thanks to National Lottery players, we can save much loved heritage all over the UK and create benefits\u2026<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n<p>The Heritage Fund writes (28 March 2023):<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday (27 March), our Chief Executive, Eilish McGuinness, went to\u00a0Crystal Palace Park\u00a0to celebrate its award of \u00a3304,000 development funding towards a proposed \u00a35m regeneration project.<\/p>\n<p>Sitting at the meeting point of five boroughs, Crystal Palace Park serves a wide range of local communities, including some of the most deprived in England and provides important green space for the local area.<\/p>\n<p>Our funding would help restore the park\u2019s Tidal Lakes, home of the Crystal Palace Dinosaurs, and create a new dinosaur-themed playground and information centre. The park is currently on the Heritage At Risk Register, in part due to the condition of the dinosaurs, which have stood there for more than 170 years.<\/p>\n<p>Eilish McGuiness said: \u201cCrystal Palace Park embodies the joy of heritage: from its nature walks and unique dinosaurs, to the kaleidoscope of sporting and cultural activities held in its magnificent grounds. It\u2019s as important to local communities as its history is significant internationally.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn 1852, Crystal Palace Park was designed to impress, educate, entertain and inspire. Our funding will help ensure that it continues to do just that for generations to come.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2>Projects across the UK<\/h2>\n<p>&#8220;We\u2019re delighted that thanks to National Lottery players, we can save much loved heritage all over the UK and create benefits for people, places and our natural environment.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><em>Eilish McGuinness, Chief Executive of The National Lottery Heritage Fund<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Among the many other projects that have received development and delivery funding and grant increases in this round of awards, are:<\/p>\n<p>Gardeners\u2019 House in Penzance, which has received over \u00a32m to create a new green community hub in West Cornwall, repurposing a historic stable block to encourage environmental education and wellbeing.<\/p>\n<p>The John O\u2019Groats Mill\u00a0\u2013 the historic heart of the community \u2013 was awarded almost \u00a31.6m to restore the mill as an economic and social driver of the community.<\/p>\n<p>The Hilden Mill School, in Lisburn, Northern Ireland, has received \u00a3834,000 to transform its disused building into a tearoom and childcare facilities for local families. The site will also be used to promote the social and economic role of mills.<\/p>\n<p>The Trinity Centre in Cardiff\u00a0received \u00a3892,000 for wide ranging improvements to the former Methodist church. The project will support the work of 24 different groups based there.<\/p>\n<p>Elsewhere, we\u2019ve awarded grants to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>London &amp;\u00a0South: Tottenham High Road regeneration (\u00a32,677,310)<\/li>\n<li>Midlands &amp;\u00a0East: Forgotten histories of Serendipity Artist Movement Ltd (\u00a3729,438)<\/li>\n<li>North of England: National Science and Media Museum (\u00a33,086,790) and The Piece Hall (\u00a3650,600)<\/li>\n<li>Scotland: Carluke community growing and learning garden (\u00a31,019,127)<\/li>\n<li>Wales: Hafod Morfa Copperworks Powerhouse (\u00a31,428,119), Monmouthshire Shire Hall Museum (\u00a3349,928) and Tylorstown Welfare Hall and Institute (\u00a3286,388)<\/li>\n<li>Northern Ireland: RSPB Rathlin (\u00a3720,000) and St Joseph&#8217;s in Glenullin (\u00a3584,000)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Our commitment to heritage<\/h2>\n<p>Eilish said: \u201cWe\u2019re delighted that thanks to National Lottery players, we can save much loved heritage all over the UK and create benefits for people, places and our natural environment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Find out more about\u00a0the heritage we\u2019ve supported in your area.
