{"id":36061,"date":"2023-03-31T17:09:06","date_gmt":"2023-03-31T16:09:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsblogsnew.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=36061"},"modified":"2023-03-31T17:09:06","modified_gmt":"2023-03-31T16:09:06","slug":"ihbcs-toolbox-update-on-la-conservation-jobs-in-england-market-intelligence-research-note-from-ihbcs-2022-jobs-etc-posts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=36061","title":{"rendered":"IHBC\u2019s Toolbox update on LA conservation jobs in England: \u2018Market Intelligence\u2019 Research Note from IHBC\u2019s 2022 \u2018Jobs etc.\u2019 posts"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-10592\" src=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/Toolbox-Homepage-image-300x227.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"227\" \/>The IHBC\u2019s first Research Note (RN) for 2023 (RN2023\/1) has been posted on the <a href=\"http:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/toolbox\/index.html\">IHBC\u2019s ToolBox<\/a>, offering our annual update of \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/ihbc.org.uk\/toolbox\/docs\/LA%20Conservation%20Specialists%20Job%20Market%202021%20RN2023%201%20v%2020012023.pdf\">Market Intelligence<\/a>\u2019 on England\u2019s local authority (LA) conservation-related jobs, based on our \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/ihbconline.co.uk\/jobsetc\/\">IHBC Jobs etc.\u2019 service<\/a>.<\/h3>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">\u2026 no better intelligence exists regarding this specific market\u2026<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n<p>Bob Kindred MBE IHBC, Note author and research lead for the programme, said: \u2018This new Research Note summarises the job vacancies advertised largely on the IHBC\u2019s web pages in 2022 under the section on <em>\u2018Jobs etc\u2019. <\/em>\u00a0It provides a detailed picture of long-term trends in the market including job requirements, qualifications and levels of remuneration, together with regional variations.\u2019<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">\u2026 some additional and positive observations\u2026<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n<p>\u2018Happily, some additional and positive observations based on the 2022 data include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a return to full-time permanent posts after several; years where part-time and\/or fixed term jobs such as High Street Action Zones had been prevalent;<\/li>\n<li>average median salaries increasing by 8.7% &#8211; the largest year on year increase since 2001-2002;<\/li>\n<li>the expectation that applicants would be Full Members of IHBC (or working towards this) with over 73% of employers making this a requirement, the highest level since 2016 (71%).\u2019<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>IHBC Policy Committee Chair Roy Lewis said: \u2018We are indebted to Bob Kindred for this excellent and most useful analysis.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Bob has diligently monitored advertisements for local authority conservation officer posts since 1998 on a continuous weekly basis.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018His conclusions are based on a very high proportion of the actual jobs advertised and are therefore highly reliable \u2013 no better intelligence exists regarding this specific market.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The Research Note\u2019s Executive Summary reports:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Institute\u2019s continuous data from 1998 (25 years) now covers 2,144 posts.<\/li>\n<li>The year of 2022 was principally notable for a higher number of advertised full-time permanent jobs than those that are part-time and\/or fixed term that had been more notable in recent years (the latter explicit in programmes such as High Street Action Zones).<\/li>\n<li>Recruitment levels remained approximately the same as 2021 having edged up slightly from 2020 but overall remained well below those in the first decade of the century.<\/li>\n<li>The average median salary for advertised posts in 2022 was \u00a336,042 marking a rise of 8.7%, the largest year on year increase since 2001-2002 (the average annual increase in the last decade has been less than 4%).
