Birmingham Live<\/em> writes:<\/p>\n

With lots of old protected buildings, beautiful historic cemeteries, workshops and converted apartment buildings, it’s fair to say that the Jewellery Quarter doesn’t have much space in which to build a farm. However, a grass roots food organisation has submitted a proposal to Birmingham City Council to do just that, on the roof of a car park.<\/p>\n

Slow Food Birmingham has proposed that an urban farm be placed on top of the Vyse Street car park in the neighbourhood. The proposal shows there will be glass houses, a community space and garden as well as an educational hub and caf\u00e9 at the farm should planning permission be granted.<\/p>\n

Slow Food Birmingham says that the project would ‘foster valuable conversations about the city’s food system and create a model for change, championing hyper-local food production and education’\u2026.<\/p>\n

The food produced at the farm would be delivered by cargo bike through the Jewellery Quarter and other parts of the city, with the hope of supporting residents, businesses and the food justice network groups that support those experiencing food crisis\u2026<\/p>\n
