\u2026giving recognition to the work of heritage consultancy teams\u2026<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n

Lone Le Vay, IHBC Vice-Chair and judging panel member, said: \u2018I was delighted to be able to present this relatively new Award at a ceremony on 12 December 2022, hosted at the Charterhouse in London.<\/p>\n

The award was greatly welcomed by the winners for giving recognition to the work of heritage consultancy teams undertaking detailed research, including in-depth analysis of archive materials, to assist in understanding the cultural, architectural and social significance of historic buildings and structures, and their evolution over time.<\/p>\n

\"\"There was a varied field of entries and the award panel found the research by the Simpson & Brown Heritage Consultancy Team to make a major contribution to our understanding of the historic evolution of the building and the changes that have been made since it was first built. This will contribute to developing proposals for bringing this highly significant building back into beneficial use as a music school in a manner sympathetic to the special architectural and historic importance, as revealed in their research report.<\/p>\n

\u2018I also delighted to present the award to last year\u2019s winners<\/a>: Benjamin Clark and Nicholas Wright of Donald Insall Associates for their research paper \u2018An Architectural History of the Lord Leycester Hospital, Warwick\u2019<\/p>\n

Winning Research:<\/strong> The Old Royal High School, Edinburgh: Simpson and Brown Heritage Consultancy Team\u2026<\/p>\n

Malcolm Airs, on behalf of the judging panel, commented: \u2018The panel was unanimous in its recommendation that the 2022 Heritage Research Award should be made to the Simpson & Brown Heritage Consultancy Team for their submission on the Old Royal High School Edinburgh.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018Based on significant original research, it makes a major contribution to our understanding of the historic evolution of the building and the changes that have been made since it was first built. It is clearly structured and appropriately illustrated. It is directly relevant to the current proposal for a new use and fully addresses all the criteria that are specified in the assessment process\u2019.<\/p>\n
