derelict for decades\u2026<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><em>The Daily Gazette<\/em> writes:<\/p>\n<p>Will Quince joined representatives from Historic England and North Essex Heritage during his visit to the Grade II* listed building, Jumbo.<\/p>\n<p>North Essex Heritage has leased the iconic building in Balkerne Gate for 150 years from its owner Paul Flatman in order to undertake its vision to restore, conserve and champion the tower\u2019s renaissance.<\/p>\n<p>The charity plans to convert the 34-metre tower, which is of national heritage importance, into a destination venue, restaurant, visitor experience and historical interpretation space for all to enjoy.<\/p>\n<p>It is hoped an application will be made to the National Lottery Heritage Fund\u2026Mr Quince said: \u201cIt was brilliant to meet representatives of North Essex Heritage and Historic England for a tour of Jumbo.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am proud to have helped secure \u00a31million from the Government\u2019s Town Deal Fund to kickstart the exciting restoration and redevelopment plans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJumbo has sat unused, unloved and largely derelict for decades.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe now have an exciting opportunity, leveraging the \u00a31million of Government funding, to raise the further circa \u00a34million needed to restore and redevelop Jumbo into not just a heritage attraction, but a destination&#8230;.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tony Calladine, east of England regional director at Historic England, said it was great to meet with the MP and see the works being carried out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was delighted to see the progress made at this important local landmark and proud that Historic England has been, and continues to be, on this remarkable journey to revitalise this extraordinary
