A historic Aberdeen swimming pool has featured in a new video from local band The Little Kicks\u2026<\/p>\n

The B-listed Bon Accord Baths is being given a new lease of life as a creative hub after being closed for more than a decade\u2026<\/p>\n

The B-listed Bon Accord Baths is being given a new lease of life with a variety of new creative projects in a bid to save the unique space from permanent closure.<\/p>\n

The Art Deco building shut in 2008 due to council budget cuts, falling into disrepair and targeted by vandals in the years since.<\/p>\n

The exciting new promo from indie-rockers The Little Kicks comes amid a raft of efforts to transform the much-loved pool into a community hub.<\/p>\n

Vocalist Steven Milne told STV: “It\u2019s an amazing space and the guys running the baths are really bringing attention to it and we would love to tap into it.<\/p>\n

“I think there is a genuine curiosity to see the baths because they have been closed for so long and in a different way. A music video is a great way to see it in its glory.”<\/p>\n

The baths were enjoyed by generations since opening 1940 but badly deteriorated in the years following closure, daubed in graffiti and strewn with old furniture.<\/p>\n

But after a clean-up operation, campaigners fighting to reopen the grand old swimming pool have repurposed it as a music venue to host jazz performances.<\/p>\n

Rowan Flint is one of several artists taking part in an exhibition in the space later this summer.<\/p>\n

“The building has amazing potential to be at the core part of our community again,” she said. “It\u2019s exciting for people to come back in the building and have that nostalgia again.<\/p>\n

“It\u2019s an amazing architectural marvel and to see it, remember and give it a new chapter of its history is fantastic.”<\/p>\n

Steven Cooper, of Bon Accord Heritage, hopes that their campaign will eventually see the pool reopen to the public for the first time in over a decade.<\/p>\n

“We want to raise the profile of the project and reach people who may not have been aware of the baths and the uniqueness of the building,” he said.<\/p>\n

“A huge amount of work has been done to restore and repair the baths and although there\u2019s still more to do, campaigners are quietly confident it could reopen as a swimming pool in the next few years.<\/p>\n

“This is a community led project for the community of Aberdeen and we wouldn\u2019t be here if we didn\u2019t feel they didn\u2019t want to see the baths back in action.”<\/p>\n
