Fund<\/a>, the home-rental platform is asking people to submit \u201cout-of-this-world\u201d ideas for \u201cthe world&#8217;s craziest spaces.\u201d The plans will be judged by an expert panel and the top 100 applicants will receive $100,000 in financing each, Airbnb said&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Airbnb listed various properties \u2013 including those designed in the shape of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airbnb.com\/rooms\/23188128?source_impression_id=p3_1646709488_GRUNpeZnItFGGXmO\">boot<\/a>, a <a href=\"https:\/\/affiliate.insider.com\/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.airbnb.com%2Frooms%2F20445002%3Fsource_impression_id%3Dp3_1655911476_SjpWiPwVZwggrqaH&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=yahoo.com\">UFO<\/a>, and a <a href=\"https:\/\/news.airbnb.com\/omgfund\/#:~:text=UFO%20House%20or-,a%206%2Dton%20potato,-%2C%20the%20first%2Dof\">massive potato<\/a> \u2014 as examples of unusual listings already available on the platform.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to make it easier to create more of these homes,\u201d Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky wrote on <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/bchesky\/status\/1539512761905885184\">Twitter.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe fund is shaped in part by the growing trend of flexible living that has emerged in the past two years,\u2019 Airbnb wrote in the announcement. \u2018As part of this shift, Airbnb guests are craving more unexpected spaces that become the destinations themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To tap into the trend, Airbnb in <a href=\"https:\/\/news.airbnb.com\/2022-summer-release\">May<\/a> introduced the <a href=\"https:\/\/affiliate.insider.com\/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.airbnb.com%2F%3Ftab_id%3Dhome_tab%26refinement_paths%255B%255D%3D%252Fhomes%26search_mode%3Dflex_destinations_search%26flexible_trip_lengths%255B%255D%3Done_week%26location_search%3DMIN_MAP_BOUNDS%26category_tag%3DTag%253A8225%26search_type%3Dcategory_change&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=yahoo.com\">\u201cOMG!\u201d category<\/a>, features listings with unusual designs.<\/p>\n<p>Airbnb itself is embracing remote work two years after the pandemic shuttered offices worldwide: In April, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/airbnb-flexible-work-remote-brian-chesky-no-loss-pay-2022-4?utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=yahoo.com\">the company<\/a> announced <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/airbnb-flexible-work-remote-brian-chesky-no-loss-pay-2022-4?utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=yahoo.com\">employees could live and work anywhere<\/a> forever.<\/p>\n<p>Chesky said at Airbnb&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/affiliate.insider.com\/?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.fool.com%2Fearnings%2Fcall-transcripts%2F2022%2F05%2F04%2Fairbnb-inc-abnb-q1-2022-earnings-call-transcript%2F%3Fawc%3D12195_1655951755_5868024e16b47dc1a243a3742931d32d%26campaign%3D78888%26pc_source%3DTheMotleyFool_Awin%26utm_source%3Daw%26utm_campaign%3D78888&amp;utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=yahoo.com\">first-quarter earnings call<\/a> in May that the pandemic spurred longer-term stays at properties listed on its platform. Long-term stays of 28 days or more remained Airbnb&#8217;s fastest-growing category by trip length compared to 2019, the company said in its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/airbnbs-careers-page-viewed-800k-times-work-from-anywhere-benefit-2022-5?utm_medium=referral&amp;utm_source=yahoo.com\">letter to shareholders.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cRight now, what&#8217;s happened is that for millions of people, they don&#8217;t need to go back to an office five days a week. And the vast majority of companies are not requiring employees to come back to an office,\u201d Chesky said in the call, according to a transcript.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don&#8217;t think this is a temporary phenomenon.
