The IHBC writes:<\/p>\n

The Institute of Historic Building Conservation will host its Annual School and Conference in Aberdeen from 15-18th June, aberdeen2022.ihbc.org.uk<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s event will explore heritage care and challenges being in the 21st Century as it looks at \u2018Heritage on the Edge\u2019.<\/p>\n

The IHBC\u2019s celebrated annual conferences are a major annual event in the calendar of built and historic environment conservation practitioners across the UK and beyond.<\/p>\n

\u2026 the Aberdeen School is delighted to welcome delegates – both in-person and virtually – with live and recorded presenters highlighting the tremendous wealth of old and more recent heritage in Scotland, particularly across Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.<\/p>\n

We are especially proud to have opening addresses from both Angus Robertson MSP,<\/em> Cabinet Secretary for the Constitution, External Affairs and Culture, and Griff Rhys Jones<\/a>, as the media\u2019s most generous advocate of people\u2019s heritage.<\/p>\n

Scotland\u2019s Culture Secretary Angus Robertson said: \u2018We\u2019re fortunate that we have such an impressive array of historic buildings in Scotland and this conference offers a timely opportunity to promote heritage-led regeneration as part of the solution to overcoming economic and social challenges.<\/p>\n

\u2018And given the impact of climate change on our physical environment, the discussions around how we can protect and enhance our heritage in both urban and rural areas are hugely important.\u2019<\/p>\n

Griff Rhys Jones said: \u2018I wrote in my introduction to the IHBC\u2019s 2020 Yearbook<\/em><\/a> that \u2018I believe more than anything that conservation is about the future\u2019, and that conservation is there \u2018to help manage change\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u2018I am delighted to explore these matters further in conversation with the IHBC, and help shape discussions at its 2022 Aberdeen School<\/a> in June.\u2019<\/p>\n

IHBC\u2019s Chair David McDonald said: \u2018I\u2019m really looking forward to my visit to the Granite City, not only because I\u2019m Scottish, but because there will be much for us to learn about heritage protection and practice \u2018on the edge\u2019.\u2019<\/p>\n

The IHBC is also delighted to celebrate the warm support for our conference from both Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen councils, as well as numerous other contributors to our extended programme.<\/p>\n

In particular our thanks go to the smaller charities, the many volunteers and the linked networks that have made sure this event will highlight Scotland\u2019s place in managing heritage with the most impressive of local and global values.<\/p>\n
