{"id":32950,"date":"2022-04-06T16:01:43","date_gmt":"2022-04-06T15:01:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsblogsnew.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=32950"},"modified":"2022-04-05T16:53:21","modified_gmt":"2022-04-05T15:53:21","slug":"decade-of-development-has-saved-edinburghs-built-heritage","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=32950","title":{"rendered":"Decade of development \u2018has saved Edinburgh\u2019s built heritage\u2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-7771\" src=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/05\/Edinburgh-Cityscape-by-Fiona-Newton-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"edinburgh view\" width=\"300\" height=\"199\" \/>Only two Category \u2018A\u2019 listed buildings will remain \u2018at risk\u2019 in Edinburgh\u2019s World Heritage Site once current or planned restoration work is complete \u2013 down 14 from a decade ago &#8211; according to new figures released today by the City of Edinburgh Council.<\/h3>\n<h6><em>image: Fiona Newton<\/em><\/h6>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">\u2026 The buildings\u2026. have been repaired, refurbished and brought back into public use, following long periods lying vacant\u2026<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n<p><em>Scottish Construction Now<\/em> writes:<\/p>\n<p>In 2012, there were 16 Category \u2018A\u2019 listed buildings on the Buildings at Risk Register (BARR), which has been maintained by Historic Environment Scotland (HES) since 1990.<\/p>\n<p>The buildings, which are deemed to be of \u2018international significance\u2019 and include Riddle\u2019s Court, Acheson House and the former Donaldson\u2019s School for the Deaf, have been repaired, refurbished and brought back into public use, following long periods lying vacant\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Planning convener Neil Gardiner said: \u201cWe work extremely hard with our partners, including Edinburgh World Heritage and Historic Environment Scotland to protect our historic built environment, and with owners to support them to find the best outcome for their properties.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver the last ten years, we\u2019ve helped developers make the best and most sympathetic use of many of our globally significant and architecturally stunning buildings so they can be enjoyed now and for future generations to come\u2026.\u201d\u2026.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for Edinburgh World Heritage said: \u201cIt is welcome news that so many of the city\u2019s \u2018at risk\u2019 buildings have been conserved and given a new lease of life in order to benefit Edinburgh\u2019s people, institutions and economy&#8230;\u201d\u2026.<\/p>\n<p>..
