IHBC Director Sean O\u2019Reilly said: \u2018This round of the \u2018Jobs etc<\/em><\/a>\u2019 service <\/em>includes a strong showing from a range of less familiar primary disciplines for our conservation professionals.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018These include the Conservation Scientist\/Surveyor post from Floydconsult, and Pegasus Group\u2019s call for a Senior Heritage Consultant (Archaeology), as well as SLR\u2019s triplet of posts of Principal Archaeology & Heritage Consultant, Senior Archaeology & Heritage Consultant, and the familiar role of \u2018Historic Buildings Heritage Consultant.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018At the same time WSP\u2019s search for \u2018Heritage and Placemaking Specialists\u2019 shows that there is a solid and continuing need for the broader placemaking and \u2018townscaping\u2019 skills linked to familiar conservation competences.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018Balancing these we have again a long list of public sector roles tied to \u2013 or evolved from \u2013 the historic conservation officer, with its balanced integration of regulatory control and heritage-led intervention.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018These include calls for Conservation Officers from Somerset West & Taunton, Hastings, and the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018More specific variants include Croydon (Senior Project Officer (Conservation)); Cherwell (Senior\/Conservation Officer); Hackney (Conservation and Design Officer), Hull (Principal Urban Design and Conservation Officer) and Kirklees\u2019 interesting reach into the management of the natural environment with its search for a \u2018Team Leader \u2013 Conservation, Design, Trees and Ecology\u2019.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018While these are all familiar variants of the Conservation Officer role, other posts this round also recognise the broader place-management and planning traditions from \u2013 and alongside – which\u00a0 the historic role evolved.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018Manchester City Council\u2019s call for a Planning Officer (Heritage and Urban Design) and Warrington\u2019s search for an Urban Design and Heritage Officer reflect that thinking.\u00a0 Mixing those operational threads with a project focus is PKHT\u2019s call for a Perth Lower City Mills Development Officer.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018Clearly all these \u2018<\/em>Jobs etc<\/em><\/a>\u2019 <\/em>posts <\/em>reflect the exceptionally wide spectrum of relevant roles encompassed and skills seen in the<\/em> IHBC Areas of Competence<\/a> and the Conservation Cycle<\/a>.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018Those diverse practice areas are also reflected in the IHBC\u2019s MATE<\/a> application support sessions and guidance, as well as in the principles we use to assess interdisciplinary competence in line with international conservation practice standards<\/a>.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018That same breadth is also reflected in the two outliers for this round: Hutton + Rostron\u2019s \u2018Specialist Historic Building Surveyor\u2019 and The Diocese of Sheffield\u2019s call for a Church Buildings Officer \/ Church Buildings Team Leader.\u2019<\/p>\n
