{"id":32762,"date":"2022-03-11T18:06:27","date_gmt":"2022-03-11T18:06:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsblogsnew.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=32762"},"modified":"2022-03-15T17:23:49","modified_gmt":"2022-03-15T17:23:49","slug":"griff-rhys-jones-in-conversation-at-ihbcs-blended-2022-aberdeen-school-on-film-on-heritage-on-the-edge-and-more-with-delegate-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/?p=32762","title":{"rendered":"Griff Rhys Jones \u2018in conversation\u2019 at IHBC\u2019s \u2018blended\u2019 2022 Aberdeen School: On film, on heritage \u2018on the edge\u2019, and more\u2026 with delegate options outlined as booking opens 15 March!"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-32792\" src=\"https:\/\/newsblogs.ihbc.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/Aberdeen_Flyer_3_400px.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"227\" \/>The IHBC is delighted to announce that the 2022 <a href=\"https:\/\/ihbc.org.uk\/aberdeen2022\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Aberdeen School<\/a> will include a special film with Griff Rhys Jones \u2018in conversation\u2019 with the IHBC, broadcasting to virtual and in-person delegates at the \u2018blended\u2019 Day School on 17 June, with attendance options now explained and booking to open on 15 March.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/h3>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>The IHBC\u2019s 2022\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ihbc.org.uk\/aberdeen2022\/\">Aberdeen School<\/a>\u00a0conference looks at \u2018Heritage on the Edge\u2019.\u00a0 It examines how practitioners and stakeholders can and should manage change to the most challenging of heritage.\u00a0 That heritage may be \u2018on the edge\u2019 for any of many reasons, including geography, technology, changing taste, new environmental awareness\u00a0<em>etc.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>We are delighted that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cadw.gov.wales\/griff-rhys-joness-story\">Griff Rhys Jones<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 President of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.victoriansociety.org.uk\/\">Victorian Society<\/a>, among his many other roles \u2013\u00a0 will explore the challenges of conserving Victorian and other heritage that is\u00a0 \u2018on the edge\u2019, in a recorded conversation with the IHBC\u2019s Chair David McDonald.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>IHBC Director Sean O\u2019Reilly said: \u2018Almost from the start Victorian architecture has been on the edge \u2013 of taste, of engineering, of social progress and more \u2013 so Griff\u2019s practical perspective offers an excellent start to the day, for in-person and virtual delegates alike.\u2019<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><em><span style=\"color: #800080;\">&#8216;\u2026 conservation is about the future, and that conservation is there \u2018to help manage change&#8230;.&#8217;<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n<p>Griff Rhys Jones said: \u2018I wrote in my introduction to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ihbc.org.uk\/Yearbook\/2020Yearbook\/6\/index.html#zoom=z\">IHBC\u2019s 2020\u00a0<em>Yearbook<\/em><\/a>\u00a0that\u00a0<em>\u2018I believe more than anything that\u00a0<\/em><em>conservation is about the future\u2019,\u00a0<\/em>and that conservation is there \u2018<em>to help manage change<\/em>.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018I am delighted to explore these matters further in conversation with the IHBC, and help shape discussions at its\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ihbc.org.uk\/aberdeen2022\/\">2022 Aberdeen School<\/a>\u00a0in June.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>IHBC\u2019s Chair David McDonald said: \u2018I\u2019m really looking forward to my visit to the \u2018Granite City\u2019, not only because I\u2019m Scottish, but also because there will be much for us to learn about heritage protection and practice \u2018on the edge\u2019.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018While we have had two very successful virtual annual schools in 2020 and 2021, it is exciting to be having an in-person event this year.
