centre\u2026. now hold the same status as Marischal College and the Music Hall\u2026<\/span><\/em><\/h2>\n<p><em>The Press and Journal<\/em> writes:<\/p>\n<p>Gilcomstoun Land, Seamount Court and Porthill Court at Gallowgate, as well as Marischal Court and Virginia Court at Castlehill, now have the highest historic protections.<\/p>\n<p>The buildings have been recognised for their contribution to Scotland\u2019s history and are said to illustrate \u201cthe physical and social changes taking place post-war\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>However, the listings have been met with backlash, with Aberdeen City Council&#8230;<\/p>\n<h2>Controversial Aberdeen listings<\/h2>\n<p>Historic Environment Scotland (HES) originally proposed that eight buildings in Aberdeen would be added to the listed building register, but Hutcheon Court, Greig Court and Thistle Court were removed following\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pressandjournal.co.uk\/fp\/news\/environment\/3080029\/council-lodges-appeal-against-decision-to-list-aberdeen-high-rise-blocks\/\">the appeal.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>At the end of last year, the government\u2019s planning and environmental appeals division (DPEA) confirmed\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pressandjournal.co.uk\/fp\/news\/aberdeen-aberdeenshire\/3805656\/aberdeen-high-rise-listing-appeal-fails\/\">five of the buildings would remain listed<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>\u2018Significant challenges\u2019<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.historicenvironment.scot\/about-us\/news\/listing-of-aberdeen-multi-storey-flats\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The high-rise buildings<\/a>\u00a0in the city centre, including adjoining shops and multi-story carparks, now hold the same status as Marischal College and the Music Hall.<\/p>\n<p>Any alterations to be made to the buildings will require special consent separate to any planning permission.<\/p>\n<p>The council has raised concerns&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><a
