It was powered by water diverted from the River Worth through a series of sluices a goit and is associated with Sir\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.yorkshirepost.co.uk\/topic\/richard-arkwright\" data-vars-event=\"gaEvent\" data-vars-ec=\"navigation\" data-vars-ea=\"in article - outbound\" data-vars-el=\"\/topic\/richard-arkwright\">Richard Arkwright<\/a>, renowned industrial engineer.<\/p>\n<div class=\"sc-dtDOqo sc-dkYRCH isQNjU gfksRi markup\">\n<p>Despite its historic significance, the building has been derelict for decades, and was recently added to Save Britain\u2019s Heritage\u2019s \u201cAt Risk\u201d register.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"sc-dtDOqo sc-dkYRCH isQNjU gfksRi markup\">\n<p>And the water features were recently \u201cdestroyed\u201d \u2013 with the council currently investigating who was behind this heritage crime.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"sc-dtDOqo sc-dkYRCH isQNjU gfksRi markup\">\n<p>A planning application to build a steel fabricating workshop in front of the site was submitted to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.yorkshirepost.co.uk\/topic\/bradford\" data-vars-event=\"gaEvent\" data-vars-ec=\"navigation\" data-vars-ea=\"in article - outbound\" data-vars-el=\"https:\/\/www.yorkshirepost.co.uk\/topic\/bradford\">Bradford<\/a>\u00a0Council by JCL Machinery Limited in 2020.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"sc-dtDOqo sc-dkYRCH isQNjU gfksRi markup\">\n<p>The company had recently purchased the plot of land in front of the mill, unaware of the illegal work that had been done prior to the purchase&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;a recent survey looking at the structure found that while there were issues, such as the badly damaged roof, the building was not in danger of collapse&#8230;.<\/p>\n<div class=\"sc-dtDOqo sc-dkYRCH isQNjU gfksRi markup\">\n<p>When asked what type of support Historic England would offer, Mr Ackroyd said: \u201cInitially it would be financial support towards action to secure the building. They haven\u2019t ruled out further financial support.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"sc-dtDOqo sc-dkYRCH isQNjU gfksRi markup\">\n<p>He suggested the Towns Fund, a \u00a333m pot of cash awarded to Keighley by Government, could help in the building\u2019s future.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"sc-dtDOqo sc-dkYRCH isQNjU gfksRi markup\">\n<p>One scheme proposed through this grant is the creation of a \u00a314 million fund to \u201crestore and repurpose buildings and redevelop sites for commercial and residential use.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"sc-dtDOqo sc-dkYRCH isQNjU gfksRi markup\">\n<p>Mr Ackroyd said: \u201cThis is one building that we put on the list of potential candidates for Towns Fund assistance. It wouldn\u2019t pay for everything, but it would contribute.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"sc-dtDOqo sc-dkYRCH isQNjU gfksRi markup\">\n<p>Chair of the panel Coun Doreen Lee said: \u201cI\u2019ve known this mill all my life.
